There have been plenty of conversations, frustrations and opinions surrounding these new ferries over the past few years, and for good reason. For many people, this isn't just a ferry, it's their connection to home, family, work and business.

This post isn't intended to revisit those conversations.

It's simply about the fact that we were curious and wanted to go and see her for ourselves, and to share that experience with others who may be interested but may not have the opportunity to do so.

Looking forward to seeing her make her first journey across to Kangaroo Island.

After hosting guests from around the world, there are a few things people almost always underestimate before visiting Kangaroo Island.

1. The size. Its's big. Most people dont realize how big it is.
2. How much there is beyond our famous icons. A lot of people are surprised by just how much there is to see, do and experience on the Island.
3. The emotional connection. Kangaroo Island tugs at your heart strings. I should know...I came for a holiday....and bought a house! Not saying you will do that, but most people leave with a special piece of Kangaroo Island tucked away in thier heart.

The best trips are the ones you are prepared for and a little local knowledge can make all the difference.

This sunset was such a cracker! We both "eventually" returned to Seascape Cottage with big smiles and absolutely sandy feet and paws 🐾

Nothing beats the feeling that you are living inside your very own wildlife documentary.

Experiencing the magic in person is priceless...from the cheeky sideways glaces of the dolphins as they pop up to say hi as they ride the waves, the opportunistic pelicans dropping in hoping for a free feed or the seal on the rock who's got an itch that needs scratching...you will be deeply immersed in thier world.

Baudin Beach is a small coastal town 10 minutes from the ferry terminal at Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island.

We are a small town of 60+ homes along a rugged coast line that starts with sandstone cliffs and then morphs into tree lined sand dunes. Quite incredible really.

Its unlikely you will find us in the tourist brochures, which means low traffic and most times beaches you can have all to yourself.

We think its the perfect spot! Quiet and relaxing, yet close enough to Penneshaw to pop out for a coffee, dinner or to the shops.

Just a short and scenic 20 minute drive from Seascape Cottage, Dudley Wines has something for everyone.

Of course, the wines are divine, but if that's not your thing, why not enjoy the view from the deck with a delicious pizza or a cheese platter.

The kids will be entertained with a small play area and the driving range is huge fun for both the golfers and non-golfers alike.

Group Dudley Wines with the Cape Willoughby Lighthouse and Antechamber Bay/Chapman River...both a short drive further on Cape Willoughby Road.

Hot tip: Make sure you book if you want to eat there...especially during peak times or weekends
