The new landmark public park at the Acton Waterfront in Canberra's West Basin is named Ngamawari, with full completion scheduled for 2028.
Gifted by local Ngunnawal representatives, Ngamawari (pronounced "nar-mar-wa-ree") means "cave place" to honor the limestone caves flooded when Lake Burley Griffin was created. Progressive openings began in 2025 following initial land filling and soil placement, and the final construction phase is due to wrap up in 2028. The 30,000-square-metre park will feature an adventure playground, extensive native gardens, public restrooms, artworks, and open event pavilions.
