Let’s give it up for our Male Referee of The Year - Ethan began his refereeing journey at 15, taking on the challenge with a genuine desire to learn more about basketball and understand the game from a completely different perspective.
As a young basketball player, Ethan wanted to experience what it was like to step into the shoes of a referee and better understand the challenges officials face during games. Refereeing has given him a greater appreciation for the concentration, confidence, communication and quick decision-making required every time an official steps onto the court.
One of Ethan’s favourite aspects of refereeing is connecting with other referees, sharing experiences and learning from those around him. He welcomes feedback and uses every game as an opportunity to develop his knowledge, confidence and officiating skills.
Taking responsibility for officiating games at just 15 demonstrates Ethan’s maturity, initiative and willingness to challenge himself. He understands the importance referees play in creating a fair and positive basketball environment.
Outside of basketball, Ethan is an enthusiastic athlete who regularly represents his school in interschool sporting activities, including volleyball and badminton.
Ethan’s dedication to learning, positive attitude and willingness to contribute make him an outstanding young referee and a wonderful example for other young people considering becoming officials.
