Today is St Mary MacKillop feast day. Mary lived in Penola & opened the first Australian free Catholic school for the poor here in 1866. When staying at Alba Cottage, you can visit the Mary MacKillop Interpretive Centre to learn more about her & Penola’s history. You can also eat at the Royal Oak hotel built by her uncle Alexander Cameron.

The old train line in Penola & Coonawarra is now a fantastic bike 🚴or walking 🚶‍♂️trail! An easy walk along the bike track from Alba Cottage & you can visit Parker, Patricks, & Hollick Estates! 🍷🍇 You can even hire Ebikes & make it a day adventure!

Alba Cottage is surrounded by wonderful cellar doors! You can even do a walk (or ride a bike) through the vines in Coonawarra. We have a map of the walk in the cottage - follow the green feet! The w**eries will also hold your bottles so you can collect at the end of your walk ❤️🍷🚶🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️🚴
