September is Su***de Prevention Month.
This is a conversation that matters to us deeply at Dreamwood.
We want to remind our campers, staff, parents, and entire Dreamwood family:
You don't have to have the right words.
You don't have to know how to fix it.
You don't have to carry it alone.
If you're worried about someone, check in. Listen. Take them seriously. And if you're the person who is struggling, please tell someone you trust. Your struggles do not make you a burden.
We know that difficult moments can affect more people than the person going through them. For anyone who has quietly wondered, “Could I have done more?” please be gentle with yourself. We can't always know what someone else is carrying beneath the surface, and it is not your responsibility to have all the answers. What matters now is that we continue to care, continue to listen and continue to remind each other that asking for help is always okay.
We are so grateful for a camp family that looks out for one another and we want that care to continue long after the summer ends.
Be the person who asks.
Be the person who listens.
Be the person who stays kind.
And when things feel too heavy, let someone be that person for you.
If you or someone you know is struggling, in Canada you can call or text 988 for 24/7 su***de crisis support. If there is immediate danger, call 911.
You matter. Your story matters. And you don't have to face the hard days alone.
