Happy Halloween! 🎃 May your night be filled with glowing jack-o’-lanterns and a little spooky magic 👻

30/10/2026

🎃🌿 This year for Halloween, we’ve been inspired by the “kelp-o’-lanterns” made by Tim Hatfield of Homer, Alaska. Each of our kelp-o’-lanterns is made from Bull Kelp floats, plus other seaweeds and shells – whatever we found washed up on the beach by the tide!
👻 Which do you think is the spookiest?

🌊 Bull Kelp / husmin / Nereocystis luetkeana is one of the key species in the kelp forests of the Pacific coast. These underwater forests provide food and habitat for an incredible diversity of marine animals and contribute to healthy coastal ecosystems.

Things are about to get a little interesting with time zones! ⏰

Starting this Sunday, November 1st, Vancouver Island residents won't be turning their clocks back, but our neighbours south of the border will!

That means Seattle, Portland and Las Vegas will now be one hour behind Victoria during the winter, while cities like Toronto and New York will be just two hours ahead instead of three.

And that's just the beginning! Several other Canadian provinces and US states will also have different time differences than we're used to.

We've broken down what's changing and what it means for Vancouver Island residents 👇
