📉 CO₂-reduced steel could significantly reduce emissions in transformer manufacturing while adding less than 1% to total grid investment costs.

That was one of the key insights shared by Marcel Hilgers (thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel), Dirk Averesch (Siemens Energy), Julia Däumer (SGB-SMIT Group) and Dr. Gunter Erfurt (Next2Sun AG) during a discussion on resilience and decarbonisation at 2026.

The message was clear: decarbonisation cannot happen in isolation. Progress depends on collaboration across the entire value chain, from steel producers and transformer manufacturers to utilities and policymakers.
