The mysterious Genii Cucullati of the Celtic peoples:
The Genii Cucullati, or hooded spirits, appear in sculptures and carvings across regions inhabited by Celtic peoples, from the British isles to the Rhine. It is assumed that these figures are spirits that are in some way connected with fertility, but they have no names and are of indeterminate s*x although a couple of statues have been seen with mustaches. These hooded spirits vary in size from large and upright to small and stooping. Uniquely in Britain, where they have been found as far north as Hadrian's wall and as south as Gloucester, some appear in groups of three, leading to speculation that they could represent another example of a tripartite deity.
