The best waterfront view in Copenhagen (and it’s completely free) 🇩🇰🤫
Everyone rushes to the top of the Round Tower or Church of Our Saviour for a view of the city, but as locals, this is our absolute favorite indoor vantage point.

The Black Diamond (The Royal Danish Library) has some of the most breathtaking modern architecture in Denmark. You can walk right in, head up the escalators, and watch the harbor boats glide past through a massive 8-story glass wall. It’s quiet, warm, and stunningly beautiful.

📌 SAVE this post for your next rainy day in Copenhagen or when you just need a peaceful spot to watch the city move.

Have you been inside the Black Diamond yet? 👇

Copenhagen summer at its absolute best! ☀️🇩🇰

There is nothing quite like the energy at Ofelia Plads when the sun comes out. It is the perfect spot to catch a tan, grab a cold drink with friends, and watch the boats go by.

TIP: If you’re looking to dive into the water, make sure to head over to the city's official harbor baths like Islands Brygge or Sandkaj in Nordhavn for the ultimate summer swim! 🏊‍♂️

A stroll along Christianshavn Canal is one of Copenhagen’s most charming experiences. Located on the opposite side of the harbour from the city centre, Christianshavn is one of Copenhagen’s most beautiful historic districts and should not be missed.

The easiest way to get there is by taking the Metro to Christianshavn Station and walking along the canal from there. Alternatively, cross the elegant Inderhavnsbroen bridge from Nyhavn and explore the neighbourhood on foot. With its picturesque canals, colourful waterfront houses, and maritime atmosphere, Christianshavn often reminds visitors of Amsterdam.

FACTS

• Christianshavn was founded by King Christian IV in 1618 as part of an ambitious expansion of Copenhagen’s fortifications and trading district. Its canal layout was inspired by Dutch city planning and was designed to attract merchants and maritime trade.

• From 1639 to 1674, Christianshavn functioned as an independent merchant town with its own privileges before being incorporated into Copenhagen. It quickly developed into a thriving centre for shipping, commerce, and craftsmanship.

Tourist Tip

For a different perspective of the city, join one of Copenhagen’s popular canal sightseeing tours and discover the harbour, historic waterfronts, and hidden corners from the water. If you prefer to explore at your own pace, rent an electric boat and cruise quietly through the harbour and canals—a uniquely Copenhagen way to experience the city.

It’s almost that time of year again!
In late June, Denmark’s newly graduated students take to the streets in decorated trucks, celebrating with music, laughter, and visits to family and friends. It’s one of the country’s most colourful and joyful summer traditions.

If you spot students wearing white graduation caps, take a closer look at the coloured band. The classic cap worn by graduates from the general upper secondary school (STX) features a burgundy-red band, while students from other educational programmes wear different colours, including shades of blue, grey, purple, and more.

For visitors, this is a wonderful chance to experience a uniquely Danish celebration and join in the festive atmosphere that fills the city each June.

FACTS:
Student Drive (Studenterkørsel) is one of Denmark’s most beloved traditions. While its origins can be traced back to the 1920s, it became truly popular following Denmark’s liberation in 1945. Back then, newly graduated students celebrated in horse-drawn carriages; today, they travel from house to house in decorated trucks. Although the vehicles have changed, the spirit of the tradition remains the same: celebrating graduation with friends, family, and classmates.

Tip: In 2026, Studenterugen (Student Week) in Denmark runs from Wednesday, 24 June, to Sunday, 28 June. These dates are also the peak period for the traditional student drives, when newly graduated students celebrate by travelling around the city in decorated trucks.

One of the best places to see one—or several—of these festive trucks is Kongens Nytorv, where many groups stop before making their way to the equestrian statue at the centre of the square, as pictured in today’s post.

June has officially arrived in Copenhagen, and with it, the start of the summer season!
We’d like to wish all our followers a wonderful 1st of June and an amazing month ahead.

Later this week, we (Maxi & Maro) will be heading off on our summer holiday and will be away from Copenhagen throughout June. Don’t worry—we’ll continue sharing daily Copenhagen content while we're away, so you can keep enjoying the beauty, atmosphere, and inspiration this incredible city has to offer.

We’re hoping for plenty of sunshine, vibrant city life, and unforgettable moments waiting to be captured when we return in July.

Before we fully embrace the month ahead, let’s take a look back at some of our favorite Copenhagen photos shared during May. Which one was your favorite?

Who doesn’t love a great viewpoint?
Today we’re taking you above the heart of Copenhagen from the viewpoint at Illum Department Store, overlooking the beautiful Amagertorv square. From here you can spot some of the city’s most iconic sights — Strøget and Købmagergade, Copenhagen’s famous pedestrian shopping streets, Storkespringvandet fountain, and even Christiansborg Castle in the distance.

Grab a coffee, soak in the atmosphere, and before you leave, treat yourself to a classic Danish hotdog down on Amagertorv.
