🇪🇦 The INDALO MAN sign symbolises ALMERÍA PROVINCE

💯 The Indalo is an ancient Bronze Age stick figure from Almería, Spain, representing a human holding an arch or rainbow. It acts as a powerful cultural talisman of good luck, protection against evil spirits and storms, and a symbol of harmony between man and the universe.
💯 Origin and History Cave Discovery: First found in the Cueva de los Letreros (Cave of the Signboards) near Vélez-Blanco, Almería, dating back to around 2500 BC.
💯 Name Derivation: The name is widely thought to come from the Iberian or local dialect terms meaning a powerful, protective God, and later linked in memory of Saint Indaletius (San Indalecio), an early bishop in the region.
💯 Regional Identity: Deeply tied to the town of Mojácar and adopted as the official emblem for the whole province of Almería.
Core Meanings and Traditions ~
🛖 Protection of Homes: Traditionally painted in red or brown on the front walls of houses and businesses to ward off the evil eye and lightning storms.
🌈 The Rainbow Warrior:
The arch held by the figure is interpreted as a rainbow, symbolising a heavenly pact or connection between a higher deity and humanity.
💰 Gift of Fortune:
Folk tradition holds that an Indalo carries stronger luck when given as a physical token or present to another person.

The weather is glorious, with a slight breeze and there is no noise. Just 34°Cat almost 5pm. Bliss!

If you’ve ever driven through Spain, you’ve definitely seen these giant black bulls standing dramatically on random hillsides.

I always assumed they were ancient Spanish monuments, signs for bull fights, or possibly a reminder that you’re still in Spain 🤣.

Turns out they started life as roadside adverts for Osborne brandy in the 1950s… and after advertising laws changed, Spain liked them so much they were allowed to stay as unofficial cultural landmarks.

There are still around 80/90 left across Spain - about 24 in Andalusia alone.
