One of the qualities that we always look for in homes is personality. Whether it comes from an architect, an interior designer, the home's owner, or all of the above, it's what sets each home apart from cookie-cutter rentals. And you know it when you see it.

Take Amazigh in Puglia. When we asked its owner, artist Ninì Bonavoglia, what visitors love about it, he told us, "They really appreciate the fact that it reflects me a lot. I wanted to make it as a very personal project, mixing things I’ve collected during the years and my ceramic works, which are reflected in the fireplace, door handles, lighting, and sculptures scattered around the house."

And what does he love about the home himself? "The sense of peace and isolation I experience when I’m there. I really like being surrounded only by olive trees, with no other houses around. Also, I really enjoy the outdoor kitchen island. I’m very much into cooking, and it feels great doing it there surrounded by nature, or when you have guests over and you can chat around the cooking."

Imagine falling in love with a space so hard that you buy it in ruins and camp among them til you figure out what happens next. That's what Mexican-Canadian chef Ernesto K*t Gomez did with an abandoned sugar cane hacienda in Todos Santos. "I wanted to be there to observe," he told us. "To live in the building’s draft. To feel the air. I spent two months camping there. Walking around the space and imagining what it would become."

What it became is Casa Melina. With the help of rising-star architect Yashar Yektajo, Gomez took inspiration from a towering cactus and Maria Ignacia Melina, the last surviving member of the Guaycura people, and built a tower under the stars.
