⚠️Calima time in the Canary Islands 🌬🌬🌬🔥🔥🔥
❓️But what is calima❓️
Calima is the Spanish word for atmospheric haze, it refers to suspended Saharan dust that causes hazy skies, elevated course particles and reduced visibility. Episodes typically last 3 to 5 days.
☢️Elevated sand particles may cause dry cough, eye and throat irritation, or breathing discomfort. People with asthma, COPD, heart conditions, children and the elderly may be more affected. During intense episodes, health authorities recommend using masks and closing windows
🔅Calima dust originates in the Sahara Desert, primarily Mauritania, Western Sahara, and Mali. The Saharan Air Layer carries fine particles westward across the Atlantic on easterly to northeasterly winds, reaching the Canaries within 1 to 4 days. It affects all the Canary Islands, with Fuerteventura and Lanzarote most exposed due to their proximity to Africa. Episodes can occur in any month but peak in late winter and early spring. Dust originates in the Sahara and travels across the Atlantic via the Saharan Air Layer.
The hazy skies of a Calima covers the sun it is still advised to wear suncream as it is still hot and the suns rays can still get through and burn.

You never really know what's coming. A small wave, or maybe a big one. All you can really do is hope that when it comes, you can surf over it, instead of drown in its monstrosity.

✝️ Rio de Janeiro or Artenara/Gran Canaria?🌎

The Escultura Corazón de Jesús in Artenara looks like a mini version of the famous Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. It sits at the Mirador del Corazón de Jesús (📌Artenara, Gran Canaria), welcoming people to the highest mountain village on the island

🙌Jesus stands with open arms on top of a globe🌐 which is held up by two kneeling angels👼 overlooking deep ravines and mountain views toward the Caldera de Tejeda⛰️

🗺Engraved with a map of the world on the globe in a deliberate stylistic choice, the Canary Islands are cartographically exaggerated in size to visually highlight the local region hosting the monument.

📜The text etched onto the globe reads:

"Reinaré en España más que en todo el resto del mundo"

("I will reign in Spain more than in all the rest of the world").

This is a line pulled from the historic Catholic hymn dedicated to the Sacred Heart, inspired by the prophetic visions of the 18th-century Spanish Jesuit mystic, Blessed Bernardo de Hoyos.

Have you ever been there? It's really worth to visit this magical place!🤗💟

🏜 The Maspalomas Dune system is a unique wild place in the Canary Islands due to its beauty and range of ecosystems. Its 400 hectares, protected by the Canarian government as a Nature Reserve of special value, include a fantastic beach, a dynamic sand dune system, palm grove and a brackish lagoon. This mix of desert and oasis is at the southern tip of Gran Canaria and is surrounded by the famous Maspalomas resort.
