A rather lovely little surprise at Ysgubor Degwm today!

Our departing guests have left us these fabulous Halloween pumpkins, and we couldn’t resist giving them pride of place in the autumn sunshine.

A huge thank you to our lovely guests.

It’s these little things that make running Ysgubor Degwm so special.

Happy Halloween from all of us at Seadog & Stone!

A little behind the scenes at Seadog & Stone…

We’ve been busy giving Ysgubor Degwm a bit of a photographic refresh, capturing some of our favourite corners of the barn for our new website.

Fresh flowers, plumped cushions, and beautifully made beds. All in pursuit of the perfect photograph!

Naturally, our newest team member, Arthur, felt his presence was essential.

Unfortunately, his interpretation of “helping” involved supervising proceedings, investigating every freshly arranged cushion and finding somewhere comfortable for a snooze.

We’re not entirely convinced he’s cut out for a career in photography, but he’s certainly enthusiastic.

We’ll be sharing more of the new photographs over the coming weeks, along with a few of the little details that make Ysgubor Degwm such a special place to stay.

And don’t worry, Arthur will undoubtedly make another appearance. He’s rather fond of the camera!

Meet Arthur, the newest member of the Seadog & Stone team!

We thought it was about time we introduced our newest little helper, Arthur, a fox red Labrador puppy who joined the family this summer. Born into a litter of nine gorgeous puppies from my brother’s working Labrador, the beautiful Macy, Arthur has been keeping us thoroughly entertained ever since!

At just three months old, he’s already appointed himself Head of Garden Inspections, Chief Sock Collector and Supervisor of Absolutely Everything.

He’s particularly enthusiastic about exploring the grounds at Ysgubor Degwm, although he’s still working out a few of the practicalities. He’s mastered climbing the old stone steps, for example, but coming back down is apparently an entirely different matter!

Of course, Arthur has some rather big paws to fill. Our original Seadog, Bramble, is now 15 and still very much rules the roost! Arthur has joined as her enthusiastic apprentice, although she’s made it quite clear that she’s not planning on handing over the reins just yet.

We’re not entirely convinced he’s going to be our most productive employee, but he’s certainly our most enthusiastic!

Welcome to the team, Arthur. We suspect you’re going to cause chaos!

Fresh bara brith from the oven.

Translated from Welsh, bara brith means “speckled bread” — a traditional tea loaf filled with dried fruit.

We like ours sliced thick and generously buttered…

Happy St David’s Day from the Davies family.

A garden daffodil, the LlĹ·n coastline, and a day to celebrate this beautiful corner of Wales we are so lucky to call home.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus to you all.

From the snug window this afternoon, another appearance from Phil. Head of security. Lover of daffodils. It’s safe to say spring is definitely on its way.

A cold February day, but Portmeirion was beautiful. Full of light — blue skies, winter colour, and a calm you only get when the place is a little quieter.
Lunch at Castell Deudraeth then a slow wandering around the village, crisp air, and the calmest sea always just there in the background. Loving a bit of slow living this Feb!

End of January, and the garden is beginning to come back to life.

This is the kind of time we love here. Slow moments outside, a wander through the garden in the crisp air, and the sense that spring is quietly on its way.
