BRFFA HIDDEN TEAMS.
The final competition of the BRFFA 2026 calendar was held on Saturday 31st October on the picturesque Blagdon water.
Blagdon never fails to disappoint, if the fishing is tough the scenery certainly makes up for it.
The morning started cooler than we had been used to but thankfully there was only a gentle breeze rather than the high winds we have witnessed recently.
The odd fish was caught early but it was apparent the fish were taking a while to stir.
Some boats started in front of green law while others opted for the dam area.
The odd boat ventured towards top end. The water at top end has been coloured recently to the storms, but thankfully the colour had now started to drop out.
As the morning faded into the afternoon a handful of rods had worked out a method.
Fish were not coming thick and fast though.
By mid afternoon 2 main areas had been identified where some fish were willing to play.
A few boat lengths off of north shore was the main spot, it was easily identifiable due to the majority of boats drifting in this area.
The afternoon was fading and so was the temperature. Although the breeze was cool the fish were still high in the water.
Floating or slow intermediate lines with a mixture if colour, cormorants and black muskins proved best for most. The odd fish was still being taken on dry fly.
The boats returned to the jetty at 4:30, the temperature by now had dropped considerably and the light was fading.
The anglers made there way into Blagdon lodge for some welcome warmth and a buffet that had been sorted by Lee Williams, Lee’s daughter and Paul Golding.
The results proved it had not been any easy day.
The hidden team taking top spot was
Alan Williams, Bill Pugh & Jim King.
Between them the caught 16 trout.
