🌻🗺️ Local Love 🌻🗺️
Let’s show some local love for BASSENTHWAITE! 🍃
Shimmering like beaten silver between sun dappled fells, Bassenthwaite Lake is one of the most peaceful and unspoilt spots in the Lake District and one of its most northerly too 🌤️💙
At 4 miles long, it’s one of the smaller lakes, but it’s also the only one in the entire district officially called a “lake” rather than a water or mere. Its long, elegant shape sits beneath a dramatic backdrop of fells including Barf, Greystones, Lord’s Seat, Broom Fell and Lings Fell, giving walkers a real sense of wild, open landscape.
The views around Bassenthwaite are breathtaking, especially towards Ullock Pike, where the mix of rugged slopes and deep forestry creates a truly atmospheric setting. And unlike some of the more famous lakes, Bassenthwaite has kept its peace and tranquillity since the 19th century, making it perfect for walkers who want space, quiet and time to think.
Whether you’re strolling along the shoreline, exploring nearby trails or simply soaking up the stillness, Bassenthwaite is a beautiful escape for anyone who loves nature at its most serene 🌿✨
