There's something that matters more to us than most things: this island's community. And the Isle of Arran Music School (IOAMS) is one of the best things happening in it.

Since 2016, IOAMS has been giving young people on Arran free tuition in traditional Scottish instruments — bagpipes, drums, clarsach — getting them away from screens and into something that connects them to each other, to this place, and to a living musical tradition that's worth keeping alive.

Earlier this year, their pipe bands competed at the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championship for the first time — and came home with a win. Primary school kids and teenagers, performing together, on a national stage. That's what happens when young people are given the chance and the encouragement to do something real.

And now there's an even bigger stage ahead: the pipe band has been invited to march in New York's Tartan Day Parade in 2027. A genuinely once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these young musicians to represent Arran and Scotland in Manhattan — but getting a whole band across the Atlantic isn't cheap, and they're fundraising to make it happen.

The Corrie Hotel is proud to sponsor IOAMS. It's one of the most straightforward things we do — support a charity that's quietly doing brilliant work, right here on Arran.

Father's Day is fast approaching and we think dads deserve a proper treat.

**🥃 WHISKY OF THE WEEK — Lochlea Our Barley | £6**

Our whiskies of the week don't even last the whole seven days . . . such is the popularity of our impressive collection of Scottish drams.

Lochlea is a farm distillery in the heart of Ayrshire — built on the very farm where Robert Burns lived and worked from 1777 to 1784. Founded in 2018, it's independent, family-owned, and does everything on site: they grow their own barley, distil it, mature it and bottle it, all on the same estate. In 2023, they became the first distillery in the world to win the Icons of Whisky "Single Estate" award. Our Barley is their flagship — a Lowland single malt made entirely from barley grown on the farm, matured in a mix of bourbon barrels and sherry butts, bottled at 46%.

**NOSE** – Sweet, juicy fruit salad, a drizzle of honey and sugared orange peel with soft notes of grassy malt beneath.

**PALATE** – Buttered soda bread, crushed almonds, tinned peaches with chantilly cream. Prickles of peppery barley gently build.

**FINISH** – A touch of maple syrup and nutty, toasted oak. Creamy layers of vanilla soften the spice.

A proper field-to-bottle whisky from just across the water. Come and try it at the bar — £6 a measure.
