This is what Friday should look like 🍂

The valley in full autumn colour with mist hanging low between the hills. We can’t wait for today’s guests to arrive and enjoy it.

For family get-togethers, weekends with friends or a group escape that’s been sitting in the chat for months, this is your sign to actually book it.

Things holiday home hosts think while cleaning… but rarely say out loud 😂

Changeover day always comes with a running commentary in our heads…

Did they cook big dinners together or order a takeaway? Or maybe they got a private chef in?

Who found the secret games room first? Did the children love the secret door?

Did they use the hot tub much?

Did they sit outside and watch the view change as the sun went down?

Did the dog have the absolute time of its life? 🐾

Did anyone actually use both dishwashers? 😂

While we’re stripping beds, cleaning bathrooms and getting Tanat House ready for the next arrival, we can’t help wondering about the weekend that’s just happened here.

Other holiday home hosts - please tell us we’re not the only ones doing this during changeover? 😂

You booked a countryside getaway… and THIS is just 15 minutes away 👀

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct isn’t just impressive to look at - it’s one of the great engineering achievements of the Industrial Revolution.

Designed by Thomas Telford and William Jessop, it was built to carry the canal across the Dee Valley and opened in 1805 after more than a decade of work. At around 38 metres above the River Dee, its cast-iron trough and slender masonry piers were hugely innovative for the time and helped establish Telford’s international reputation.

The wider Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal stretches for around 18km and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2009, recognised as an outstanding example of the engineering ambition that transformed transport during the Industrial Revolution.

More than 200 years later, you can still walk across it or travel over by boat, with the Dee Valley opening out below you and the great news…it’s all within easy reach of Tanat House.

One of those places that makes you realise just how much history and incredible scenery there is to explore from this part of the Shropshire–Wales border.

There’s something extra special about welcoming guests back to Tanat House ❤️

It was so lovely to see these returning guests again in September, and to know they chose to come back and spend more time here really does mean a lot.

Reviews like this genuinely mean the world to us. Thank you for taking the time to leave such kind words, and for coming back to stay with us again.

Who says money doesn’t grow on trees? 👀💰

One of the best things about staying so close to the Welsh border is that a proper day out in Wales is completely doable, and this one has a bit of everything.

Start at Dolgoch Falls, with its woodland paths, waterfalls and the slightly unexpected sight of a tree stump covered in coins, then hop aboard the Talyllyn Railway for one of those journeys that feels like part of the day rather than just a way of getting from A to B.

From there, head on to Aberdyfi for fish and chips by the beach 🏖️.

It’s a brilliant way to spend a day from Tanat House and a good reminder that being right on the Shropshire–Wales border means you can explore so much more than just the immediate area.

Waterfalls, steam trains, fish and chips and sunset by the sea… not a bad day out. 🌿🚂🌅

POV: you book a September getaway and this is what 3pm check-in looks like… 🍂

There’s something about arriving somewhere beautiful, dropping your bags and realising the rest of the afternoon can be spent exactly like this, with the hot tub bubbling away and that view stretching out in front of you.

If the group chat has been talking about getting away together, this is your reminder that it might be time to actually make it happen. We don’t have any autumn weekends left available in 2026, although there are still a couple of midweek stays, so pop over to Sykes and take a look (link in our bio). 😊

If you’re thinking ahead to autumn 2027, it’s worth getting in early too, as weekends are already starting to fill up. 🍂

Things not included in the Sykes listing… 🐢 🦖

Meet Bernard, one of Tanat House’s more unexpected residents.

He occasionally appears for lunch and somehow turns eating lettuce into something you end up watching for far longer than you planned.

Not exactly one of the listed amenities, but we think he adds to the charm. 😂

This is your sign to book that 2027 autumn weekend away… 🍂🔥

The fire pit is lit, the house is glowing behind you, there’s a glass of something cold in your hand and absolutely no rush to be anywhere else.

Autumn is one of our favourite times at Tanat House for exactly this reason. The days might be shorter, but the evenings somehow feel longer when everyone is together.

All weekends for 2026 are now booked, but there are still some midweek stays available and autumn weekends for 2027 are open if you’re planning ahead.

Save this for the group chat that keeps saying “we need to actually book something.”
