We went under the floorboards of our Victorian Tin Chapel... and found a time capsule left behind by the men who built it.
Just 100 yards down the lane from our hostel sits a small building with a very big story. Our 130-year-old Tin Chapel is one of the most unique features of a stay here—a quiet place of reflection that has stood the test of time since 1895.
During a careful renovation a few years ago, the building gave up its secrets. Hidden beneath the floorboards for well over a century, we discovered:
🪚 A carpenter’s chisel, left behind by the men who built it.
✍️ A signed and dated floorboard from the original 19th-century construction.
These pieces of history are now proudly on display inside, alongside our collection of heritage Boys' Brigade features and our beautiful, original pump organ. 🎹
For generations, this chapel has echoed with the sound of "Will Your Anchor Hold." It has been a place where hundreds of young people have found quiet moments of reflection.
Whether you came here as a Boy in the 50s or a leader last summer, the Tin Chapel remains almost exactly as you remember it—a peaceful and special piece of BB history.
