What lovely surprises!

Today, we’ve received gifts from our outgoing guests and our incoming guests!

A thank you card, glasses set and a bottle of fizz this morning, and then a yummy slab of cherry and walnut topped fruit cake this afternoon!

We certainly don’t expect any gifts from our guests, but very grateful to receive these today. 🥰

What excitement yesterday! I got to try out my brand new hedge trimmer!

The hedge along the front of Vine Cottage and my house always used to be my Dad’s pride and joy. I felt a great sense of responsibility when I took over the hedge cutting and inherited my Dad’s hedge trimmers.

Dad’s mantra was to cut little and often to maintain a straight (ish) hedge. Keen to follow in his footsteps, the hedge cutting at the front has become a bit of an obsession of mine! Rarely does it go 2 weeks in the summer before I’m on it!

This weekend I was met with disaster! Dad’s trusted trimmers decided to give up on me! Panic set in - the hedge was officially overgrown! (In my eyes anyway! 🤣)

There was only one thing for it! A new purchase was necessary! Forget designer shoes and handbags, I’ve got myself a new hedge trimmer!

When you wish it was sunny like last week……

If like Chloe you don’t like rainy weather, then there’s still lots to do during your stay at Vine Cottage.

If you don’t fancy going anywhere, we have a selection of books, local books and guides to look through, as well as games to suit all ages. You can book me in for a Temple Spa pampering experience, and enjoy a luxury facial. The hot tub is undercover so good for all weathers.

If you want to get out and about, there’s lots of indoor attractions in Blackpool, plenty of garden centres nearby to visit, and The Flower Bowl entertainment centre nearby. Try your hand at curling, crazy golf, bowling, cinema and lots more!

Or, like Chloe, you can just cosy up, watch a film or series on Netflix and relax!

Did you know Pilling is renowned for its Pilling Potatoes?

Potatoes from Pilling are well regarded because the area has ideal growing conditions for potatoes:

The rich fertile soil provides the ideal growing conditions for potatoes. Much of the land around Pilling is silty, fertile coastal farmland.
In addition, the mild temperatures and regular rainfall help potatoes grow steadily without excessive heat stress.

My dad used to grow potatoes and it was always a source of excitement to try his first crop. I can picture his plateful now, smothered in butter!

So, if you happen to be staying at Vine Cottage over the summer, make sure to try our local spuds!
