Isle of Raasay Keep up to date with what's happening on the beautiful Isle of Raasay. History, news and photos. Much of the island can be covered by car.

Isle of Raasay (or Ratharsair in Gaelic) is an island off the coast of Skye, Scotland. Raasay is famous for it's diverse landscapes and history; from the distinctive flat topped peak of Dun Caan, steep clifftops and winding forest trails to abandoned castles, ancient brochs and famous sights such as Calum's Road and Raasay House. Wedged between Skye and the mainland, Raasay's accessible by a 20 mi

nute ferry journey from Sconser. The island has one hotel, Raasay House, as well as several B&Bs. We try our best to credit every photo used, or purchase photos from the creators to use and feature. Please message us we fail to do so. We also ensure to only use Creative Commons photos or those with express permission from the creator for use in cover photos and profile pictures. If we feature a photo you own the rights to and wish to remove it, please contact us so we can do that for you as quickly as possible.

We’re delighted to celebrate the opening of Clachan Gallery, a wonderful new addition to our island community.

Owned by artist Ru Goodchild, the gallery showcases Ru’s work which reflects a deep connection to the landscapes that surround us, and we’re excited to see this new creative space open its doors.

Clachan Gallery joins the much-loved Raasay Gallery as part of Raasay’s local creators and makers trail, giving both visitors and locals another opportunity to discover the talent, creativity, and craftsmanship that flourish here on our island.

If you’re exploring Raasay, why not take some time to visit both galleries, meet the artists, and enjoy the rich creative spirit that makes our community so special?

The opening of the gallery is this Saturday 2-5pm. With 10% of sales going to the Raasay Shop Fund.

We’re also delighted that local artist Margaret McVicar is exhibiting in the gallery’s new community space.

This dedicated exhibition area will operate on a rolling six-week programme, creating opportunities for local artists and makers to showcase their work throughout the year. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate and support the wealth of creative talent within our island community, and we look forward to seeing a diverse range of exhibitions in the months ahead.

Clachan Gallery also has a dedicated art materials corner, stocked with a range of supplies including inks, watercolours, acrylic paints, oil pastels, sketchbooks, pencils, paper and more.

Whether you’re a seasoned artist, just starting out, or feeling inspired by Raasay’s beautiful landscapes, it’s a fantastic new resource for the island’s creative community.

The Gallery will be open Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri and Saturday - closed Sunday and Monday
10.00- 4.00pm - Until end of November.

Closed between December and end of March

Clachan Gallery is a few minutes on foot from the ferry terminal. Follow the pink signs to enter via the shore path. Please find suitable parking in the nearby area.

Looking to discover the creative side of Raasay?

Pick up a free copy of the Raasay Local Makers & Creators leaflet, your guide to the island’s talented artists, makers and craftspeople.

Available from the Distillery, Raasay House, both ferry terminals, Raasay Gallery, Clachan Gallery and The Silvertide Craft Cabin, the leaflet will help you explore the wonderful range of locally made art, crafts and creative experiences on offer across the island.

Support local, meet the makers, and take home something truly special from your visit to Raasay.
