I spotted this beautiful, elegant lady in the local market in Loulé, Algarve, Portugal. I admired her trolley festooned with full-flowered plants. She told me it's the best kind of shopping. I agree. We paused, chatted and shared some of life's insights just as like-minded strangers do. I feel grateful to have met her. She's Jayne with a Y.

Grief needs a witness.

A lady was telling me the other day when her good friend's father died, she dropped everything, went to her house, and sat with her.

People don’t always understand what being present means. It literally means just a person to sit in the house with. To sit in the living room and watch tv with. Or just sit outside with. Not talking. Not trying to fix anything. Just being.

Image: Mine. I love this. It says this to me. The festival colourful flags are up. Behind the scenes, though, there is the hard work to keep the town looking immaculate. For now, though, the road sweeper has taken a pause to just be present and experience the moment.
