Jan Manuel had to be one of the most active guests we have ever had . Lots of exploring and lots of walking . Thought we would share her posts from 5 years ago . They show so many places in the area that are great for those he like a hike or a walk in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Stunning countryside that never gets boring.

This is one of the gems in Richmond Northyorks that is absolutely worth a visit. Many visitors are surprised at just how small it is.

My first experience of the theatre was when I was on a school trip ( just a few years ago 🤥🙂). It’s full of history and the tours are held by volunteers which last about 55 minutes.
They take you behind the stage , show you the secret trap doors and back stage dressing rooms and Auditorium.

Tickets are £8 for Adults and £3 for children

Richmond Operatic Society Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond, North Yorkshire

Did you know that this used to be the original entrance to the Theatre? The audience would enter from Friars Wynd and file past the pay box which you can still see on the left hand side.

In those days, most people paid on the night. Richer patrons would send their servants to pay and sit in the good seats until their master and mistress arrived to take their place.

Tickets generally cost a shilling for the gallery, two shillings for the pit and three shillings for the boxes. The average weekly wage was five shillings.

We get guests from all over the Country and some as far as The Netherlands, however , not really sure how far this one has travelled.

So we have a garlic mustard plant growing wild in the secret garden. A bit of research says that the green pods at the top can be put in stir fries , the leaves can be sautéd in olive oil and in late summer you can make mustard paste when the seeds turn brown.

Not sure I’m brave enough to even try , however we did plant a lemon balm herb in the lower garden . Can be used for salads or a zingy salad dressing . Some people make tea with it, it’s good for calming and de stressing and is said to help with digestion.

Please feel free to use some whilst staying with us.

Having a reflective morning. I’m in lovely Tysoe in Warwickshire with family to celebrate the life of my beautiful cousin taken too soon. She has a gorgeous day to start her next journey.

Anyone else have these clouds today/tonight?
They are Lenticular clouds apparently which are quite rare , often mistaken as UFO’s. They don’t move and remain stationary in the sky.
