Fremington Friday. It was slightly breezy up the hill this morning. The ears were getting a right flapping.
Reeth Show was a good event as usual on Bank Holiday on Monday. It did not feel the same though without the mad morning dash to get the items in the tent before it closed for judging. There was also no anticipation to see who's turn it was this year for all the first prizes and best in class rosettes. It is the same two names which seem to alternate each year. As long as you have the right name, you can present a sunken burnt cake and still come first.
It was nice to have a year off, but rest assured I will be back on the horse next year.
Tomorrow I am taking part in the 50th Bullock Smithy event. It is a 56-mile route that needs to be completed within 24 hours. I have mixed emotions for this event. This is the first event I have been excited for this year however for the overnight stage there enforce grouping.
Due to the darker nights, grouping will be around 8pm - 6am and we will be grouped into 3 at the last daylight checkpoint. We must stay together and arrive the following checkpoints together. If a member drops out, we then must wait for another person to join the group. There will be no capability selection about it - it is purely the next 3 people ready set off. If there is no one to group due to retirements then it is game over.
This means it will unrelenting to cover as much ground before dark and then keep motoring with whoever you are placed with. Once 6am and light hits at 6am Sunday morning I should be able to relax, unless I am chasing checkpoint cut-off times.
This is going to be a tough gig as there are so many variables. I will be digging deep!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend. May it be at a slower pace than mine.
