🍂 Some views deserve the whole picture!

We shared a little glimpse of this beautiful country walk in our recent reel, but we thought these magnificent old trees deserved a photograph all to themselves.

Just look at those branches! Twisting and reaching across the sky, standing proudly above the moss-covered dry stone wall, with the golden light peeping through.

And if you look carefully at the bottom left of the photograph, you'll spot what we think is Johnny, looking positively tiny beneath those magnificent old trees! It really gives you a sense of their extraordinary size and grandeur.

It's these little moments that make a countryside walk so special. The sort of scene that makes you stop, look up and simply take it all in.

With scenery like this to enjoy around Sedbergh and the Howgills, there's always another lovely walk waiting to be discovered.

A little light snorkelling, anyone? 🐾💦

Who says you have to wait for summer to enjoy a paddle?

When there’s a river to explore, a few chilly temperatures aren’t going to put these two off! Noses down, tails up and absolutely no concern for the water temperature.

There’s something wonderfully entertaining about watching dogs enjoy the great outdoors. Every puddle is an adventure, every river an invitation, and there’s simply no such thing as bad weather when you’re having this much fun.

And afterwards? Back to the warmth and comfort of Herdwick Barn, where the treats are plentiful, the towels are ready and a cosy evening awaits.

Small mountain, BIG views. And one very windswept dog! 🐾💨

Harley is rocking the windswept look at Castle Crag in Borrowdale, and what a spectacular spot to stop and admire the scenery!

At just 290 metres (950 feet), Castle Crag has a rather special claim to fame. It's the smallest of the 214 fells featured in Alfred Wainwright's famous Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells.

But there's absolutely nothing small about those views!

Rugged rocks, wooded valleys and magnificent Lakeland fells stretching into the distance. This is the Lake District at its glorious best.

Johnny captured this wonderful photograph on a walk up Castle Crag, near the pretty villages of Grange-in-Borrowdale and Rosthwaite, around an hour's drive from Herdwick Barn.

Proof that you don't have to climb the highest mountains to enjoy some of the finest scenery in the Lakes.

And Harley? Well, she's clearly mastered the art of looking magnificent with the wind in her fur! 🐶❤️

And after all that fresh air and adventure, what could be better than heading home to Herdwick Barn, kicking off those walking boots and settling down in front of a roaring fire?

Sometimes you just need to see the whole picture! 📸🐾

We shared this wonderful photograph in a reel recently, but the trouble with reels is that you don't always get to appreciate the full image. And this one really does deserve to be seen in all its glory!

Moody, magnificent and wonderfully exhilarating. This is the Howgills at their dramatic best, with big skies, breathtaking views and walks enjoyed every bit as much by the human folk as the canine variety.

And it's right on our doorstep!

Just turn right out of Herdwick Barn's main gate, right again at the end of the road and keep heading uphill.

Who says you need blue skies and sunshine for a fabulous walk? 🍂

🍂 Autumn. In all its glory. 🍁

There’s something rather wonderful about this time of year. The countryside turns a hundred shades of gold, russet and amber, the air has that lovely autumn nip, and even the simplest walk becomes a little adventure.

Rustling leaves underfoot, woodland creatures going about their business, streams tumbling over mossy stones and the occasional sheep looking as though it owns the place. 🐑

Here in Sedbergh, with the magnificent Howgill Fells on our doorstep and the Yorkshire Dales waiting to be explored, autumn is a season worth slowing down for.

And after a day in the great outdoors? Back to Herdwick Barn, boots off, kettle on and a roaring fire to warm your toes.
