Excellent news for Stafford

Stafford has been awarded £10 million to build a brand new market hall.

The Chancellor confirmed the funding in Wednesday's Budget, providing the cash needed to deliver a modern, all-day market hall for the town centre. The new destination will feature independent market traders, street food and drink, artisan retail, and community entertainment space as part of the council's regeneration masterplan.

Both council leader Aidan Godfrey and Stafford MP Leigh Ingham welcomed the news today. Leigh Ingham explained that securing the £10 million follows a long campaign to restore a permanent market after the previous indoor market closed in 2024, while Councillor Godfrey confirmed the hall will sit at the centre of ongoing redevelopment across the cleared Guildhall and Co-op sites.

21 November a date for your diary & to book a restaurant

A new community walking parade will launch Stafford's Christmas celebrations this year.

​The annual festive switch-on returns to the town centre on Saturday 21 November, kicking off at 12:00pm with a brand new walking parade. Around 100 people representing ten local organisations will march from Tipping Street through the heart of the town, celebrating grassroots community groups before an afternoon of street entertainment and live music in Market Square.

​The main town centre lights will be turned on at 5:00pm by the Mayor, Father Christmas, and the cast of the Gatehouse Theatre panto Aladdin, followed immediately by a rooftop fireworks display. With up to 10,000 people expected across the day, access into Market Square will close at 4:45pm for safety, so visitors are urged to head into town early.
