HOW MUCH DID OUR CARAVAN TRIP TO THE SOUTH OF FRANCE ACTUALLY COST? 🚐 🇫🇷

We’ve finally added it all up! 😳

We did just over 2,000 miles towing our caravan from the UK to the South of France and back, including 14 nights in Esterel.

Here’s the breakdown:

⛽️ FUEL — £1,117.51
Just over 2,000 miles towing the caravan there and back.

⛴️ FERRY — £490.99
Dover–Calais return with Irish Ferries, booked through the Caravan and Motorhome Club, including our club discount.

🛣️ FRENCH TOLLS — £353.80
Our total toll costs for the journey there and back. We used an Emovis toll tag, which made getting through the French tolls so much easier.

🏕️ CAMPSITES — £1,692.28 + €365.11
This included our overnight stops on the journey down and back, plus 14 nights at Estrel Caravaning in Saint-Tropez for £1,650.

📍 We also paid €5.11 for our Crit’Air sticker for the car.

💷 GRAND TOTAL — £3,989.37

And that’s just the cost of getting there, staying there and getting home, it doesn’t include all the food shopping, meals out, activities, attractions and the extras we spent while we were away!

So… were you expecting it to cost more or less than £4,000?
And be honest… are you shocked by the total? 😂

Would you like to see PART 2, where we break down exactly how much we spent on food shopping, eating out, activities and all the other extras during our two weeks in the South of France?

Why don’t we see more caravans like this in the UK? 👀

We took a look around the Hobby Prestige 650 KFU and honestly… we absolutely LOVE this family layout! 😍

This is a proper European family caravan, with clever use of space and the potential to sleep up to 7 people including a fantastic two-tier and three-tier children’s bunk setup option.

There’s a dedicated double bed, a separate kids’ sleeping area, a spacious living space that converts into another sleeping area and everything you need for family touring.

At around 8.38m long and 2.5m wide, it’s certainly a sizeable caravan, but we think the layout makes really clever use of every inch.

We spotted this European family favourite and had to give you a proper look around.

What do you think? Oli’s always loved hobby caravans, and I did think this was a great family layout!

Would you choose this kind of family layout over a more traditional UK caravan?

One gadget… and SO many easy caravan meals

Our electric skillet is something we always keep in the caravan, especially for those days when the weather has other ideas and cooking outside on the Cadac just isn’t happening! 🌧️

It’s so easy to grab out and use whenever we need it, and you can cook pretty much anything on it breakfast, lunch or dinner. Lightweight, versatile and perfect for caravan cooking without needing loads of electric.

Honestly, it’s one of those simple gadgets that we absolutely love and wouldn’t want to be without now! You can pick them up from most camping shops, and B&M even do one for around £25.

Definitely one of our favourite caravan essentials

Could you imagine towing THIS around the UK? 👀

We spotted the incredible Beauer X6 at Caravan Salon Düsseldorf and it definitely caught our attention!

This is no ordinary caravan. The X6 is 7.2m (23ft 7in) long when being towed, but once you’re pitched up, the sides slide out and it transforms from 2.15m (7ft 1in) wide to a huge 3.6m (11ft 10in) wide!

And it doesn’t stop there… inside you’ve got a six-berth layout, a seriously spacious living/dining area and even a clever fold-down terrace off the lounge.

So we want to know…

🇬🇧 Could you imagine towing one of these around the UK and setting it up on a typical UK caravan site?

Would you love all that extra space and the clever design, or would you be thinking “there’s absolutely no way that’s fitting on my usual pitch!”

And what do you think your neighbours would make of it once those sides start sliding out?!

Be honest… what do you think of the Beauer X6?

What’s your favourite Caravanning Season? 🌷☀️🍁 🌧️

Apparently, there are some very serious positive side effects to caravanning… 😂🏕️

You start caravanning and suddenly you’re happier, cooler, funnier and, somehow, better-looking. Coincidence? We think not.

More fresh air, more adventures, more family time, more laughs and plenty of memories made along the way, we’ll take those side effects any day!

A little reintroduction… ❤️✨

Following on from our recent giveaway post and hitting a huge milestone on Facebook we thought it was probably time we reintroduced ourselves!

If you’ve recently started following us, Hello and Welcome to Touring with Riva! 👋🏼🏕️

We’re Becky & Oli, we’ve been together for 11 years, engaged for a little over a year, and we’re mummy and daddy to Harriet, 7, and Charlie, nearly 4.

We’ve been caravanning for around 10 years and have had five different caravans along the way, changing layouts as our family has grown. What started as us getting a caravan to take Racing when oli wanted to be Lewis Hamilton soon turned into us falling in love with it.

What started as a little Instagram page back in November 2023, simply to share our photos and keep a record of our adventures, has somehow grown into something we never imagined.

We started TikTok the following year and completely organically it’s just grown from there. We’ve been absolutely blown away by the community we’ve built and are so incredibly grateful to every single one of you who follows, watches, comments, shares and supports us. ❤️

We’re lucky to have worked with some amazing brands, but not everything you see here is gifted, PR or product placement like some seem to think. We simply share our life, our caravan adventures, site reviews, tips, recipes, cleaning and organising, caravanning with two kids, the chaos, the laughs and everything in between!

One of the biggest things this journey has given us is time. I’m now lucky enough to do this as my full-time job, which has meant Oli can work away far less than he used to and we can spend so much more time together as a family.

And that’s ultimately what this is all about for us — making memories while the kids are little. By the time your kids are 18 you’ve spent 93% of your time with them. Let that sink in 😢

We want to show that caravanning is for younger families too. It can be chaotic, expensive and occasionally stressful… but it’s also bloody good fun and gives us some of our best memories.

So, if you’re new here — welcome! We’re so glad you’re along for the ride. 🏕️❤️

Nobody talks about this part of a 3-week caravan holiday… 😂🧼

After three amazing weeks caravanning around France, it was definitely time for a full caravan clean reset! Of course, I did the odd clean whilst we were away, regular sweeping, hoovering and wiping things down is a must for me but somehow the dust, sand and general holiday mess still managed to build up. Ofcourse it did!

And with the hot weather and constantly being in and out of the caravan, it was looking a little bit worse for wear by the time we got home 🤢

So, it was out with the cleaning products and trusty Henry Hoover and time to give our home on wheels the deep clean it desperately needed! There’s honestly nothing quite like that fresh, clean caravan feeling afterwards. God I find it so satisfying 😍✨
