Galtres Lodge Probably the most central hotel in York, certainly the one with most personality! Next to York Minster and all the best things to do in York!

Galtres Lodge is an independently owned hotel in the very centre of York. Small yet perfectly formed, the building was originally two Georgian townhouses, which have been combined to make this charming 12-bedroom hotel and restaurant. Step out of the doors onto the busy shopping street of Low Petergate, and turn the corner to see the magnificent York Minster, situated immediately behind the hotel.

Hot chocolate is definitely year round drink at Forest, but at this time of year it's practically an essential!

We do have a standard way of serving it, but sometimes we get a little carried away with the marshmallows! 👀

If you’re new here, our hot chocolate is made with real chocolate melted into hot milk, with a choice of milk or white chocolate, plus cream and marshmallows if you fancy! 🍫

📅 The market is closed on Tuesdays, but there’s still plenty of other festive things to see and do around York.

🍽️ If you’re planning on dining with us at Forest during your stay, especially at weekends, we highly recommend booking a table ahead of time.

Things we see on the way to work...

Yesterday, we had a front-row seat to the traditional Legal Procession as it made its way to York Minster for the North Eastern Circuit’s Annual Legal Service, marking the start of the legal year.

Mounted police, medieval-style guards and a whole lot of history, all right at the end of our road. Just another day in York! 🤎
