Surfers often adapt their stance depending on if they want speed or carving ability. The space between the feet and their location on the board can change. On the third slide you can notice that the surfer has her foot far from the tail (if she had a traction pad, just in front of it) because she wants to accelerate past a section. As she prepares to initiate her bottom turn for example, she slides her back foot backwards to gain extra control and carving ability
