This place is absolutely ethereal. Tucked in to side of the quiet little hamlet of Fisherstown, there is a cute wee house set in the Irish countryside. After unpacking your bags, be sure to take the five minute walk to the little bridge that crosses the Athy branch of the Grand Canal. During golden hour, the view will transport you to a Jane Austin novel.
The host is gracious and kind, the bed was plush and absorbed our weary bodies lovingly after a day of adventurous driving on the Irish country roads. Be sure to visit the adorable thatched roof pub across the corner that has been operating for 400 years. We will be telling stories about this place forever.

Well worth a visit

One for the family calendar this summer!

Abbeyleix House and Farm will host its Family Day on Sunday 14th June, from 10am to 5pm, with a lively mix of activities for all ages.

Families can enjoy lawn games, craft stalls, live music, archery, face painting and plenty more throughout the day. There will also be a Sensory Play Area in the Walled Gardens, offering a calmer space for children and parents who may need it.

A lovely opportunity to enjoy the grounds, support a local event and spend the day together in Abbeyleix.

Save the date for a classic weekend in Laois!

The Gordon Bennet Irish Classic Run 2026 takes place from Friday 29th May to Monday 1st June, with County Laois as the event base for this much-loved celebration of vintage motoring and local heritage.

Inspired by the historic 1903 race route, the weekend will bring classic cars, scenic drives and plenty of character to Laois and the wider midlands region.
