Bettystown Tidy Towns

Bettystown Tidy Towns Local group set up to help keep Bettystown clean. We meet every Saturday 9-11am in Bettystown Square. All welcome. Equipment provided.

Bettystown Tidy Towns (BTT) is a group of local volunteers who want to keep the village looking fantastic. Established in 2017, we aim to enhance the village for the benefit of the community and visitors to the village. We make an effort to maintain the village and its approach roads by conducting litter picks, painting walls, adding colour by installing flower beds and planting flowers and organi

sing events for the community. Bettystown has a wealth of local resources, miles of beach and dunes, golf and pitch & putt courses, tennis club, restaurants, bars, cafes, beauticians and shops. To retain these businesses and attract more we need to maintain the village and give local residents a sense of pride in their village. As a seaside resort in a very historical area we attract a significant number of visitors to our village and the Tidy Towns group want to enhance the look of the village for these visitors and local residents.

Our mini forest on the Tara Road has transformed a piece of verge and boosted biodiversity.

In February 2025, we planted five hundred native Irish saplings to create the mini forest, using the Miyawaki method.

Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki created the Miyawaki method to grow thick, fast-developing forests using local, native plants.

This project was made possible by Amazon, who funded the project, John from Stepping Stone Forests and the staff and students of Laytown Bettystown Youthreach who helped us to prepare the site and plant the saplings.

We love our local coast. That’s why we put up this new piece of street art. It is a simple reminder to enjoy the beach and respect nature.

BETTYSTOWN DUNE ACTION TRAINING DAY

Friday September 25th - 10.30am - 3.30pm (lunch included)

Location: Bettystown Library

Dune Action is a free public training event funded by the SSE Airtricity Generation Green Fund. The programme is supporting 12 coastal communities across the island of Ireland that are experiencing accelerating dune erosion.

The one day training course is designed to equip local groups with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to understand, monitor and restore their local dune systems.

Come along and learn how you can protect and restore your local dune system!
