Every wall in Frank's has a story to tell.

August 16, 1858. A queen's message crosses the Atlantic in minutes — for the first time in history. It's hard to imagine today, but before the transatlantic cable, a letter from Ireland to America took weeks by ship. The first attempt to lay a cable across the Atlantic Ocean was launched from White Strand, right here near Cahersiveen, in 1857. It failed. The 1858 cable lasted just weeks — but long enough for Queen Victoria to send a congratulatory telegram to President Buchanan, the first transatlantic message ever transmitted.

Finally, in 1866, the SS Great Eastern — the largest ship on earth — laid a permanent cable from Valentia to Newfoundland. Communication between continents dropped from weeks to minutes. The world would never be the same. And Cahersiveen was at the heart of it all.
