Il WHY Graphic Design Festival che si svolge annualmente a Firenze si propone di far incontrare studenti, designer emergenti e professionisti affermati per condividere idee, progetti e esperienze attraverso conferenze, workshop, presentazioni, mostre e altre attività. Ogni edizione affronta temi attuali legati al mondo del design e alle tendenze globali della società, dai nuovi approcci della dida
ttica alla trasformazione dei media, dalla rinascita del design fatto a mano alle sfide legate alla pandemia. La prima edizione del festival è stata lanciata nel 2016 per dare l'opportunità a grafici, illustratori, tipografi e altri rappresentanti del mondo della comunicazione visiva, indipendentemente dal campo in cui sono specializzati, di incontrarsi e confrontarsi come comunità. Giunto alla sua quinta edizione e diretto da Laura Ottina, Nvard Yerkanian e Michelle Davis, il festival è un'occasione preziosa per designer, studenti e appassionati di conoscersi e ispirarsi a vicenda, scoprire nuove aree di espressione e ampliare il proprio orizzonte. Ogni anno diamo spazio a diverse aree del grafica e a settori correlati come la tipografia, il lettering, l’illustrazione, l'animazione, la street art, UI / UX, il collage, l’editoria indipendante, la stampa artigianale, ecc. Il programma intende anche facilitare il dialogo tra professionisti, docenti e studenti, esplorando il design come strumento globale per ripensare i sistemi e affrontare i problemi. Il Why Festival torna allo Student Hotel dal 26 al 28 novembre per la sua Quinta Edizione. Dopo aver tenuto l'ultima edizione completamente online, quest'anno il festival si svolgerà in presenza con una nuova serie di panel, presentazioni, workshop, live drawing e una mostra. La quinta edizione del festival ha come tema collaborazioni creative e community, e intende esplorare diversi esempi di relazioni feconde tra designer attivi nello stesso campo o in diverse discipline. Per questioni logistiche abbiamo temporaneamente rinunciato al nostro creative market dedicato alle autoproduzioni. The WHY Graphic Design Festival which takes place annually in Florence aims to bring together students, emerging designers and established professionals to share ideas, projects and experiences through conferences, workshops, presentations, exhibitions and other activities. Each edition addresses current issues related to the world of design and global societal trends, from new teaching approaches to media transformation, from the rebirth of hand-made design to the challenges related to the pandemic. The first edition of the festival was launched in 2016 to give the opportunity to graphic designers, illustrators, typographers and other representatives of the world of visual communication to meet and confront each other as a community. Now in its fifth edition and directed by Laura Ottina, Nvard Yerkanian and Michelle Davis, the festival is a precious opportunity for designers, students and enthusiasts to get to know and inspire each other, discover new areas of expression and broaden their horizons. Every year we give space to different areas of graphics and related sectors such as typography, lettering, illustration, animation, street art, UI / UX, collage, independent publishing, artisan printing, etc. The program also intends to facilitate a dialogue between professionals, faculty and students, by exploring design as a global tool for rethinking systems and addressing problems. Why Festival returns to the Student Hotel from 26 to 28 November for its Fifth Edition. After having held the last edition completely online, this year the festival will take place in presence with a new series of panels, presentations, workshops, live drawing and an exhibition. The fifth edition of the festival focuses on creative collaborations and communities, and intends to explore different examples of fruitful relationships between designers active in the same field or in different disciplines. For logistical reasons we have temporarily suspended our creative market dedicated to self-productions.
