While walking through the neighborhood, we stopped at Yuukiss Mama Stained Glass—a colorful reminder to look beyond the shops Kappabashi is famous for.
You'll find independent makers and creative spaces tucked among the restaurant-supply stores, making this an area worth exploring slowly rather than simply shopping your way down the main street.
You never quite know what you'll find.

One of Yanaka's most recognizable views.
Yuuyake Dandan—literally the "sunset stairs"—leads down toward Yanaka Ginza and makes a lovely starting point for exploring the neighborhood.
Come in the afternoon, wander slowly down the steps, and follow wherever the shopping street takes you.
And with a name like Sunset Stairs, you can probably guess when the light becomes particularly beautiful.

Raquel-san’s family of five spent a week exploring Tokyo from Aoto and appreciated having something very different to return to: a quiet, family-oriented neighborhood, friendly local shop owners, nearby supermarkets and convenience stores, and enough space for everyone to spread out.

Here’s what she shared:

“House was as shown in the pictures. Rooms are very small, however we made it work. Love the neighborhood in Aoto, very family oriented and we met some shop owners who were very friendly. Loved the aesthetics of the bedrooms. House was very clean and well maintained.

A few stops away from all the sites in Tokyo, but it was nice to have peace and quiet opposed to the hustle and bustle of the main areas. Supermarket and train station was very close as well as combinis.

I would definitely stay again. We are a family of 5 and having 2 toilets and showers makes a big difference as well as everyone having their own room.”

Tokyo's railway network never stops fascinating me. From Keisei Takasago, many trains continue directly onto other railway lines, meaning you can often reach different parts of Tokyo without ever changing trains.

Watching the destination signs is almost as fun as riding them.

Your Ghibli adventure starts before you even reach the museum.　From the south exit of Mitaka Station, look for the community bus decorated with colorful Studio Ghibli artwork.
It connects Mitaka Station with the Ghibli Museum, turning an otherwise ordinary bus ride into part of the experience—especially if you're traveling with young Ghibli fans.
And after spending the day navigating Tokyo's enormous railway system, sometimes it's nice when the bus makes your destination very obvious!

Whether you’re arriving in Tokyo by Shinkansen or using our house as your home base before exploring another part of Japan, staying in Takasago still gives you straightforward access to Tokyo Station.

Take the JR Yamanote Line to Nippori, make a quick transfer to the Keisei Line, and continue to Keisei Takasago.

Then it’s only a 2-minute walk from the station to our house.

That means you can step off the Shinkansen with your suitcases, make one simple transfer at Nippori, and finish the journey somewhere considerably quieter than Tokyo Station.

And when it’s time for your next adventure? Simply do it in reverse.

Watch Shibuya transition from day to night, grab dinner, wander beneath the neon, and enjoy one of Tokyo's most energetic neighborhoods after dark.

When you're ready to call it a day, take the Hanzomon Line to Oshiage, transfer to the Keisei Line, and head home to Aoto.
