Cruise GuideTour Day 10: A Sun-Drenched Finale in Ishigaki! 🚢☀️🌴

The grand finale of my spring cruise guiding season!
The rainy season seems to have just cleared up, giving us the most glorious sunny day in Ishigaki.

Here’s a snapshot of our perfect final day:

🦁 Shisa Park: Colorful, whimsical statues that put a smile on everyone’s face.

🐒 Yaima Village: Unforgettable moments with cute squirrel monkeys and beautiful mangroves.

🍶 Yaesen Distillery: Tasting local Awamori spirits.

🏖️ Kabira Bay & Tamatorizaki: Soaking in the crystal-clear emerald waters and panoramic island views.

Saying goodbye to the crew and my guests as the ship departed made me feel a little sentimental.

But knowing this ship will be back next year keeps my heart full. 🥹⚓️

Thank you for an incredible season. Until next time! 🤙✨

Cruise Tour Guide DAY 9: Sailing South to Ishigaki Island 🚢

Today was a full day spent at sea.
In stark contrast to the recent rainy days, a beautiful blue sky stretched out before us from early morning! ☀️

It felt so amazing outside that I spent both lunchtime and tea time out on the deck. 🌊☕️

In the evening, we attended the Captain’s Farewell Cocktail Party and Dinner.
Realizing that this incredible journey is coming to an end makes me feel a bit sentimental.

The three of us Japanese guides dressed up in traditional Japanese kimono for the occasion! 👘✨

We even took a commemorative photo with the wonderful expedition staff. Thank you all so much for your amazing support again!

Tomorrow, we arrive in Ishigaki, where the rainy season is just about to end.🌤️

I’m sure we will be treated to breathtakingly beautiful views.

I can’t wait to fully enjoy this final destination together with my guests! 🏝️

Cruise Tour Guide DAY 8: Amami Oshima 🚢

A rainy day in Amami, but the island’s incredible nature still completely blew us away!

We kicked off the tour at Oshima Tsumugi Village.
I wore my classic Amami look—an Oshima Tsumugi patterned shirt!
No matter how many times I visit, the incredible craftsmanship never fails to amaze both my guests and me. ✨

Then, it was off to the Amami Nature Observation Forest.
The birds stayed dry inside, but we got to meet some rare local frogs and snakes instead! 🌧️🐸

Afterward, we visited the World Heritage Centre and walked through the beautiful mangrove forest.
It was the perfect natural therapy for my guests.

We are now on our way to Ishigaki Island.
We’ll be sailing past Okinawa Main Island—where I actually live! (So close yet so far...😭💔 lol).

After a relaxing day at sea, we will reach Ishigaki.

Cruise Tour Guide DAY 6: Yakushima 🚢

They say it rains “366 days a year” on Yakushima Island, and today was no exception! 😅

But honestly, rain on Yakushima is a blessing in disguise.
The raindrops made the mossy green forest incredibly vibrant, and the rushing rivers were flowing with spectacular power! 🌿🌊

We hiked through Yakusugi Land, and the highlight was definitely the Buddha Sugi.

True to its name, this majestic cedar looks just like a seated Buddha and has been watching over the forest for 1,800 years. 🙏✨

After our hike, we visited the legendary Kigen Sugi.
At an estimated age of 3,000 years old, this ancient giant is slowly reaching the final chapter of its incredibly long life.

Standing before it, seeing the final stage of its 3,000-year journey, filled my heart with deep emotion. 🌲🍂

We all gently touched its grand trunk, exchanging energy with the tree.
I truly hope our collective warmth gives Kigen Sugi the strength to live just a little bit longer. ✨❤️

On our way back, as the rain finally eased up, a big family of wild Yakushima macaques came out to the roadside to greet us! 🐒👶
They completely stole our hearts.

Thank you, Yakushima. I love you, and I can’t wait until the day I return. 💚

Cruise Tour Guide DAY 6: Nagasaki 🚢

The rain forecast totally turned around, and we were blessed with beautiful weather for our day in Nagasaki! ☀️

In the morning, we visited the Atomic Bomb Museum and Peace Park. We dedicated the paper cranes that everyone had folded together the previous day, sending our wishes for peace. 🕊️

In the afternoon, we headed out to Gunkanjima (Hashima Island).

After cruising around the island, we actually landed on it.

Although we could only view it from behind the safety fences, it is mind-blowing to think that 5,400 people once lived on this tiny island. It truly represents an incredible era in history.

And to top it all off—on our way from Nagasaki to Yakushima, our cruise ship passed right by Gunkanjima! What amazing service from the cruise line! 😍

(Though, to be honest... I totally missed the onboard announcement about it! Lol) 🫣😂

Cruise Tour Guide Day 5: Exploring Masan (Part 2)! 🚢🇰🇷

In the afternoon, I teamed up with my fellow guides to dive deep into the streets of Masan!

🐟 First stop: The massive local market!
It was pretty quiet when we arrived—turns out Sundays get a late start around here.
It must be scabbard fish (hairtail) season because they were glittering like silver! ✨

🥢 Lunch & Café Adventures
We stumbled upon a new shabu-shabu buffet for lunch, followed by a cozy café.
To our surprise, absolutely no English was spoken at either place! 😂
But both spots had such a wonderful vibe and lovely staff.
I’ll definitely be coming back here! 😋

🎨 Finally found it! The “Tree of Hope” Mural
Next, we headed to the mural village.
I was on a mission to find a specific tree mural that I couldn’t locate during my last visit.

We saw a local guy taking photos and decided to ask for directions.
He was incredibly kind and showed us exactly where to go.

Success! 🙌

This beautiful artwork, called the “3.15 Tree of Hope,” holds a very special meaning.

Masan is the historic birthplace of the March 15 uprising, a pivotal movement for democracy in South Korea.

Along the alleyways near a long-standing bookstore, a giant tree is painted on the wall.

The “leaves” and “fruits” on the branches are actually wooden nameplates where local citizens and families have written their wishes and messages of hope. 🌳✨

I was so moved to finally see it with my own eyes. A huge thank you to the kind local who helped lost guides! 🙏❤️

After two wonderful days in South Korea, our ship is finally heading back to Japan! 🇯🇵🚢

Cruise Tour Guide Day 5: Sunday Morning in Masan 🚢🏃‍♀️

Another day in South Korea means another day off for the Japanese guiding team! Today’s mission: a morning harbor run. ✨

🌊 The Route: Explored the beautiful bay area today.
The running and cycling paths were perfectly paved and so easy to follow (minus the heat! 💦).

☀️ Sunday Vibes: Local folks were out enjoying the gorgeous weather—walking, biking, and relaxing on waterfront swings.

🍴 Up Next: After working up an appetite, I headed into town with my fellow guides for lunch!

More on our foodie adventures in the next post! 😉🥢

Cruise Guide Day 4: A Day Off in Ulsan! ⚓️

A day off for the Japanese guides while the ship is in Korea! Instead of a tour, I opted for a refreshing run. 🏃‍♀️

Started the morning with my guide friends enjoying the hydrangeas in the park. 🌸

We missed out on the new Whale Kart due to maintenance 😭, so that’s on the bucket list for next year!

Then, it was time for my solo run. Jogging through the streets of Ulsan was a blast—returning to familiar spots and discovering new ones.

Exploring hidden alleys is the best part of running! ✌️

Met back up for lunch at a bibimbap buffet that HIDE-san discovered last time. It’s a hidden gem! Super clean, amazing service, and honestly, more people should know about it!

They offer glutinous rice (so delicious!) and brown rice options. I
loaded up on all the veggies for my custom bibimbap bowl. 🥣

To top it off, the staff kindly brought us free rice drinks while we chatted. Love the hospitality here!

See you again next year, Ulsan! 👋

Cruise Guide Tour: Day 3 Sakaiminato 🚢✨

Sakaiminato, the town of "Yokai" (Japanese monsters/spirits)! 👻

Sharing the stories of "GeGeGe no Kitaro" and Medama-oyaji (Daddy Eyeball) is always a huge hit with my guests! 👁️✨

Last cruise, I guided in Matsue, but today we headed to the breathtaking Adachi Museum of Art. 🎨🏯

The gardens here are designed based on the philosophy that "the garden itself is a living painting."

Between the stunning landscape and the masterpieces of Japanese modern art, like those by Taikan Yokoyama, my guests were absolutely spellbound.

They kept turning to me to say, "Thank you for such a wonderful time!"
But honestly, that gratitude belongs to someone else. 🙏✨

I am so deeply grateful to the founder, Zenko Adachi, for creating such a masterpiece of a museum, to everyone who works there to keep it flawless, and to every single person who makes this experience possible.

Time flies—the first half of our Japan journey is already complete!

Next stop: South Korea! 🚢🇰🇷

Cruise Tour Guide: DAY 2 🚢

Our ship arrived at Maizuru Port.

We headed straight to Kyoto city to explore Kinkaku-ji (The Golden Pavilion), enjoy a delicious Japanese lunch, and visit Tenryu-ji Temple’s garden and the famous Bamboo Forest. 🎋

We were blessed with beautiful weather, and my guests were absolutely thrilled!

Fortunately, it wasn’t too crowded, allowing us to take our time and truly soak in the sights.

Experiencing the beauty of Wabi-Sabi (the aesthetic of rustic simplicity) in Kyoto is always special. No matter how many times I visit, it never ceases to amaze me. ✨

Next stop: Sakaiminato! ⚓️
