🥾
🧭 Explore: Leopard Lookout Trail
This starts at the bottom of the camp and winds through rocky outcrops and sun-dappled paths, the Leopard Lookout Trail is a moderate hike with maximum reward. Climb to panoramic views that stretch over Lake Victoria, and if you're lucky, spot a rock hyrax sunbathing on the ledges. 🐾☀️
Pro tip: Hike in the late afternoon for golden-hour magic and cooler temps.

Orido bird series: Hammerkop

The best architect in the bird empire, known to build the biggest nest in Africa The nests are massive, dome-shaped structures built from sticks, reeds, and mud, often with multiple entrances and chambers. They can take months to build and are so strong they can even support a person's weight.
Hammerkops are the world's smallest species of stork and are active at dawn and dusk. They sometimes participate in group ceremonies, with up to 10 birds calling loudly and running in circles during courtship.
They are carnivorous, feeding on frogs, fish, invertebrates, and crustaceans, and will even hunt from the backs of hippos.

🐦 Birds of Orido: The Red-cheeked Cordon-bleu
🌾 Sweet, shy, and sparkling in the sun!

Tiny but unmissable, the Red-cheeked Cordon-bleu is a favorite among birders—and lucky for us, they’re easy to spot at Orido during harvest time! With their powder-blue bodies, soft brown backs, and a fiery red blush on each cheek, these little charmers are the perfect reward for a slow walk through the fields. 💙❤️

You’ll see them darting through the bushes or hopping around open ground, especially in the mornings and late afternoons. And the best part? You don’t need to be an expert birder—just bring your eyes, a little patience, and maybe a camera.

📍Whether you're hiking Orido’s trails or planning a laid-back day trip, bring your sense of wonder—the Red-cheeked Cordon-bleu might just steal your heart.
