The struggle for survival begins almost from the moment they hatch.
After helping her young reach the water, the mother crocodile cannot protect every hatchling from the dangers around them. A monitor lizard takes advantage of the opportunity, preying on the remaining vulnerable babies.
It’s a harsh reminder of life in the wild: even at the very beginning, survival is never guaranteed.

Imagine witnessing a mother crocodile hatch around 60 little ones, then carefully pick them up in her mouth, one by one and carry them down to the river below. What might look frightening at first is actually a beautiful display of maternal care.

Here’s something fascinating: crocodile mothers can guard their nests for weeks and when the babies are ready to hatch, the little ones make high-pitched calls to get their mother’s attention. She helps them out of the nest and transports them safely to the water, protecting them as they begin their journey in the wild.

Who knew one of nature’s most feared predators could be such a devoted mum?
