Hwasun Gotjawal Forest is a perfect spot to visit in September, especially since there aren’t many colorful flowers in bloom. It’s like stepping into a peaceful, vibrant oasis where nature’s calm but lively energy embraces you. Honestly, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to drop everything and just soak it all in. 🌿💚
Unfortunately, the silver and pink grasses aren’t fully blossomed yet in September.

It’s been quite a while since I last visited this forest.
Now Pippi has discovered that this forest is a barrier-free place. Many locals come here to walk barefoot for their health, and even wheelchairs can easily pass through.
It’s completely flat with no hills, yet you can still enjoy the fresh air of Jeju’s unique Gotjawal forest.
This tree shows the essence of the Jeju Gotjawal forest, rooted in volcanic rock. 😁
We saw many snails today, and also a crescent moon in the sky at 9:40 in the morning!! 🤣

It’s been quite a while since I last visited this forest.
Now Pippi has discovered that this forest is a barrier-free place. Many locals come here to walk barefoot for their health, and even wheelchairs can easily pass through.

Pippi came to Jejumok Gwana to watch the gate guard changing ceremony and the performance scheduled here at 7 pm.
But OMG, it was canceled this morning due to strong winds. 😭😭
I feel like a total fool. Why didn’t I check their Instagram first? 🤣
The wind isn’t strong enough to cancel the performances right now.
The historic pavilion is still worth visiting, and there is no entrance fee until tomorrow.
There are just a few Chinese tourists in Hanbok. 🤣

What’s your favorite?
Pippi is totally into this one. Her top pick is this adorable little tewak key ring, closely followed by some camellia soap and a candle shaped like Jusangjeolli rocks.

BTW, a tewak (or taewak) is a traditional flotation device used by haenyeo divers. The coolest part? This one was handmade by a haenyeo with 8 years of diving experience herself.
Also, a thermos with colorful stickers of Jeju’s geo sites on it makes a pretty unique souvenir.
And don’t miss out on those tiny handmade Jeju fruit jams — seriously awesome gifts!

Korean thistle rice, or gondeure-namul-bap, is a classic Korean dish where fluffy white rice is cooked together with fragrant, earthy thistle greens and served with a savory, just-right soy sauce.🍚🥒
Gondeure, the Korean thistle, has that unique deep flavor—earthy, slightly bitter, kinda like nature’s secret seasoning.
While not a specialty of Jeju, gondeure-namul-bap is a beloved Korean dish.
That means you don’t often find it on Jeju, but this restaurant is one of the bests in Korea to enjoy it. 🤣
We polished off every last bite!!

It’s the first day of September!! 🍁🍃
Has autumn come yet? Not quite! 😭
September feels like half summer, half autumn here on Jeju.
You can still enjoy the beach since it’s officially open until this weekend (September 6 to be exact). 🏖️⛱️ After September 6, you can still go to the beach, but there won’t be lifeguards on duty.

What else can we enjoy on Jeju in September besides the beach?
Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of the pink muhly grass because it might harm Jeju’s ecosystem.
But it does make for a great photo spot.

The real charm of Jeju in autumn is the silver grasses that start blooming at the end of September.
Oh, almost forgot to mention this:
Mackerel sushi is at its best in autumn, and it’s not easy to find this specialty in other parts of Korea. 🤣

Jeju Island was formed by volcanic eruptions over thousands of years.
That is why it’s difficult to find rice paddies on the island.
However, there is one spot where rice is grown!!
The Hanon Crater!! 🌾
Actually, it’s a maar-type crater and a protected wetland, and people have been growing rice there for more than 30 years.

Also, the Seogwipo Agricultural Association has been holding events to teach kids in Jeju how to grow rice. They hand out rice seedlings on Children’s Day and give awards to children who successfully grow the rice. The 17th award ceremony was held yesterday.
Check out the rice the Jeju kids are growing!
Some of it has already died, but that’s okay. They are learning how to grow rice, Korea’s main staple food.
Isn’t that awesome? 🤩
