Built in the late 1980s hotel “Britanika” became a grim legacy of the breakthrough period in Kaunas. Kokį miestą matome ateityje?

Today it looks as an abandoned icebreaker coming out of the clouds symbolising the gloomy times in a neglected and disadvantaged city. Normally serving as a shelter for migrating birds in autumn, this year the silent sinking ship is raising a grey flag – neutral yet unyielding, raising questions of identity. Can we accept the history of our city as it was? Make peace with our Kaunas in which we grew up and live? What city do we want in the future?

“Britanikos” viešbutis - pastatas, tapęs niūriu mūsų miesto persilaužimo laikotarpio paveldu. Šiomis dienomis tai tarsi iš virstančių debesų išnyrantis ledlaužis, atspindintis pilką apleisto ir nesutvarkyto Kauno laikmetį. Eilinį rudenį vėl tapęs paukščių užuovėja, prieš skęsdamas nebylus laivas kelia pilką vėliavą - neutralią, tačiau nepasiduodančią. Užduodančią mums identiteto klausimus. Ar mes gebame priimti savo miesto istoriją tokią, kokia ji buvo? Susitaikyti su savo Kaunu, kokiame užaugome ir gyvename?
