Te Wahi Ora supports 'Women Standing With Women' and the 'Harriet Foundation'.
A grassroots initiative supporting Rwandan women started by Mary Hakizimana (seen in this photo with Bev and Dace)

Mary is from Rwanda and is now living in Auckland.
Mary is connected to a network of strong resilient women who are doing their best with very little.
Mary is a mother, survivor and community builder.

Even $10 a month, when given by many women, will make a real difference.
It is a quiet, powerful act of solidarity.
A small steady gift gives these women predictable support, allows community leader to plan ahead, helps build long term resilience and SHOWS Rwandan women that they are not forgotten.

Phase 1:
Meeting basic needs - Food, blankets and fresh water
Phase 2: Rebuilding lives - once basic needs are met we can begin supporting our women's broader needs.

"When women support each other, mountain move." Rwandan saying

TEACHERS ARE IMPORTANT
Last school holidays we had quite a few exhausted teachers come and stay at Te Wahi Ora during the first week of the school holidays.

The first week they just rested ... because in the second week they needed to prepare for following term.

Teaching is an energy demanding job and the pressure just seems to be increasing.

Teachers are exhausted by the the end of term... and then often have the own families to care for.

The teachers that came here last school holidays arrived separately... but we noticed how much support they got from just chatting with each other, sitting by the fireplace while having dinner together. Feeling less alone in a high demand job.

So we thought we'd put the word out!
TEACHERS please consider gifting yourselves a break. A rest.
For your mental health and your overall health ❤️ You are important ❤️

Do you need some:
Rest
Time to yourself!
Your meals are made for you!
No housework to be done... because you are not at home!! We do the chores here.
Sleep in for however long you want
Some restorative time to yourself and a break from caring for your own family.

TEACHERS ❤️ You are important ❤️

Resting IS doing something. You are engaged in important action of self care!

😳 Piha, around late 20s or early 30s. No houses....

Early pic of Piha, around late 20s or early 30s. The buildings are: middle left, the Railways Clerk villa from the milling days; in the pohutukawa to the right of that house, a cottage built by Harry Waygood, one of the Waygood family that bought a large block of land at N Piha; out on the back dunes to the right of that, Richard Kibblewhite's bach. He was an architect who tried to subdivide Piha, but with the lack of a good road, went bankrupt. The little bach on the beachfront at right was built by Ted Le Grice, then owned by the Cullen family for many years. No Rayner Road and note the two routes of road coming down the hill. No beachfront roads and no surf club. No Beach Valley Road.

"Come and hear stories from yourself and others
of how our most authentic Self
actually develops
out of the multiplicity of unwanted emotions
that have long been misunderstood
and even despised...
This beautiful development of Self
is one of the miracles of being wrapped around in AIR
- this years working metaphor for the Life Force this year"
