🌱Huge congratulations to Teresa (Tee) Trow and Russel Trow for receiving the King's Service Medal for their services to wildlife conservation 🐦

The couple have demonstrated extraordinary, decades-long commitment to restoring and protecting native biodiversity across the Tītī Islands near Rakiura.

Back in the 1980s, they began a journey to restore the Tītī Islands, through their efforts to remove invasive species such as rats, and reintroducing native birds that had long vanished, including tīeke, matata, and meaweka.

Teresa and Russel have developed expert bird-catching techniques, maintained detailed records to monitor species success and continue to lead new initiatives, such as successful tīeke transfers to mainland sanctuaries like Orokonui in 2025.

Through collaboration with government agencies and local whānau, guided by mātauranga Māori, the pair also influenced the return of former Crown Tītī Islands to iwi management.
