📸 Panama City before Cinta Costera 2.

This was the view from Casco Viejo before the roadway connected around the peninsula. The skyline was impressive even then, but the waterfront looked very different from what visitors see today.

A reminder of how quickly Panama City continues to evolve.

Natural light pours through the stained-glass windows, illuminating this beautiful side altar inside San Francisco Church. While visitors often admire the grand sanctuary, it's these quiet corners that reveal the church's craftsmanship, peaceful atmosphere, and enduring spiritual heritage.

Looking across Panama Bay this morning, I’m talking about why I lead with “Casco Viejo, Panama” for travelers worldwide. With so many similarly named old quarters in other countries, adding Panama makes it clear which one I mean. Casco Antiguo is the official name of the historic quarter, and San Felipe is the borough it sits in. 🇵🇦

📸 Christmas in Casco Viejo, many years ago.

This photo was taken when President Ricardo Martinelli visited the neighborhood during his first Christmas in office, handing out gifts to local residents and families.

I was there that evening and it's a reminder of how much Casco Viejo has changed over the years. The buildings, the streets, and the community have all evolved, but the memories remain.

Hidden beneath your feet are centuries of history. Inside the Oratorio San Felipe Neri, original burial stones and memorial inscriptions remind visitors that this remarkable building has served as a church, seminary, hospital, and school over the centuries, preserving the stories of generations who shaped Panama.

📸 Casco Viejo wasn't always boutique hotels, rooftop bars, and restored facades.

Photos like this remind us how far the neighborhood has come while preserving the history, character, and spirit that make it so special today.

The buildings may have changed, but the soul of Casco Viejo remains the same.

Do you remember these streets?
