I promise you, both of these are straight out of the camera. No filters. No editing. Just Mother Nature showing off!

This is the view from the overlook trail that comes out the back of our campground. I can hardly get over the fall colors this year! 🍁🍂

The trail is a little overgrown right now, but clearing it is on our off-season to-do list. It’s a bit of a climb, but I’d say the view is worth every step!

I’ve always felt like life is one huge soundtrack. My daughter has told me on more than one occasion that she felt like she grew up in a musical because I’m never far away from bursting into song. There’s a song for every moment.

I took this picture of the night sky here at the campground the other evening, and a song immediately popped into my head. It has absolutely nothing to do with stars, but my soundtrack doesn’t have to make sense.

Now I’m curious. Do you have songs playing through your head all the time, too? And what song, if any, comes to mind when you look at this picture?

We’ve had these two wild turkeys hanging around the campground for a couple of weeks now. Generally, they ignore me. The other day, I decided to be neighborly and toss a little dried corn across the lawn.

Apparently, that was all the encouragement they needed.

Both came racing straight at me, and for a brief moment, I seriously questioned my life choices. (Sorry, no photographic evidence as self preservation was more important than video. 🤣) Thankfully, they came to a screeching halt at the corn.

Lesson learned. No more room service for these two! 🦃

Where are my fellow Neanderthals?!
I find one of life’s greatest pleasures is eating a perfectly charred sausage straight off the stick you roasted it on over the campfire.

No plate. No fork. No shame.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who considers this fine dining!

Mother Nature is certainly dressing up for GAF weekend. Who’s heading to the NOC for the festivities? If you’re planning to make a weekend of it, but don’t have a place to stay yet, we might just know a little hideaway about 10 minutes down the road. 😉

We’ve still got a few accommodations, and plenty of room for tent campers.

Come for the fun, stay for the fall colors, and enjoy a little peace and quiet in between!

I found this little guy wandering by the creek today. He seemed friendly enough so I took him for a little tour around the campground. He loved how clean the bathrooms are. The creek he said looks like, and I quote, "meh". I mean, he's not wrong this time of year, but the autumn leaves totally make up for it. I showed him the cabins too and he thought they were fantastic. Again, he's definitely not wrong. We had a good time, but it's really time for him to go home. Do any of you know who he belongs to?

Calling all local history buffs and longtime residents! We know we're the "new kids" around here, but we've stumbled upon a little mystery! This beautiful stained-glass piece is in our Creekside Cabin, and we're curious about its history. Does anyone remember "The Twisted Arrow"? Was it a business? A restaurant? Something else entirely. We’d love to know the story behind it! If you know anything (or even have a good guess), we'd love to hear it in the comments!

Well, this guy has really gotten under our skin...He showed up unannounced, didn’t bother with introductions, claimed a kayak, and hasn’t moved since. Honestly, he's just dead weight. 😂 But we think we'll keep him around! However, we have one little problem. He needs a name!

What a sky!

After yesterday’s storm, we're checking in on our neighbors. How did everyone fare? We hope you, your families, and your homes are all safe!

All is well here at Nantahala Hideaway! We only had a bit of rain and our biggest cleanup (other than leaves) was moving one large twig out of the driveway.

We know some areas weren't as fortunate, and our thoughts are with everyone who was affected.

Where’s my leaf peepers?! Mother Nature is starting to put on quite the show here and it's only going to get better. Cabins and sites still open for October. Who’s coming to see the show?
