Local faves, exclusive guest perks & a stay that's truly part of the destination. Featured: 2025 & 2026 Travel Iowa Guide. This is a ONE-OF-A-KIND vacation rental to EXPERIENCE. Formerly owned by Railroad Tycoon, John Insley Blair, this is a 150+ years old home that was built in 1867. The same year the first railroad tracks were laid in Iowa. Immerse your stay in the Boone, Iowa experience with th

e added artwork, decor and charm themed with Trains, Iowa and the Midwest in this vacation property referred to as the 607 Guest House. The home’s interior has been restored to bring back some of its natural beauty, charm and history, while incorporating modern day conveniences like a heated bathroom floor and Zoned Central Air Conditioning System. From refinishing the 150+ years old heart pine floors to restoring the interior wood windows with functional weights & pulleys and maintaining the original lead glass window panes, it’s an ongoing process that we will continue to the exterior. 🚂 Your Boone & Beyond Guide This Weekend 🚙🎠

This weekend, we're exploring the best of Boone and Story City, Iowa!

Boone kicks off the weekend with "Jeeps, Eats & Beats" at Visit Boone County, IA Nights on the Green – Jeep Night in Downtown Boone. Enjoy live music, food vendors, and a showcase of Jeeps while spending a summer evening in the heart of the community.

History enthusiasts won't want to miss the "Four Tornadoes – One Day" Special Saturday with a Scholar Presentation at the Boone County Historical Society Iowa on Saturday at 10 a.m., commemorating the 50th anniversary of the devastating June 13, 1976 tornado outbreak. The presentation will explore the remarkable story of four tornadoes that touched down that day, including the powerful F5 tornado near Jordan and the rare anti-cyclonic F3 tornado that occurred alongside it. Following the discussion, visitors can explore a temporary exhibit featuring the Jordan and Ogden tornadoes and learn more about one of Iowa's most significant weather events.

While you're exploring Boone, stop by the Mamie Eisenhower Birthplace, now open for the 2026 season, and discover the early life of America's former First Lady. Then wrap up your Boone adventure with the scenic countryside views and unforgettable experience offered by Rail Explorers USA, where pedal-powered rail bikes provide a unique way to experience Iowa's railroad heritage.

From there, take a short drive north to Story City for Scandinavian Days, a beloved community festival celebrating the area's Scandinavian heritage with food, entertainment, traditions, and family-friendly activities. Before heading home, take a ride on the beautiful Story City Antique Carousel and browse the treasures at Antiques Iowa, one of the Midwest's largest antique malls, featuring great dealers, great prices, vintage finds, collectibles, and true antiques.

Whether you're chasing local history, small-town festivals, railroad adventures, or unique Iowa attractions, there's plenty to discover just beyond the front porch of the 607 Guest House this weekend. 🏡✨ (Click the links above for more information.)

Looking forward to catching a glimpse of the Big Boy as it rolls into Boone, Iowa tomorrow afternoon! 🚂

The legendary Union Pacific Railroad steam locomotive will make a "no public access" overnight stop in Boone on May 31 before departing June 1. While the overnight stop itself is closed to the public, railfans can still enjoy several trainspotting locations in and around Boone to watch Big Boy roll into town and depart for its next stop to the City of Grand Mound, Iowa. (See their page for event details)

📍 If you're traveling to Boone to see Big Boy arrive or depart, we still have availability tomorrow night at The 607 Guest House. It's a great opportunity to make a weekend of it and experience one of the most anticipated rail events of the year and stay in a "train-themed" vacation rental.

First — a huge thank you to everyone who voted, shared, encouraged, and supported along the way. 💛

I’m excited to share that “Got Butter?” — a design inspired by my farm-kid roots — placed 3rd in the 2026 Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation T-Shirt Contest!

👕Many have asked if shirts will be available — and they are! The Top 5 finalist designs can be purchased for a limited time through May 29, with proceeds supporting the historic Iowa State Fairgrounds through the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation.

If you order a shirt, I would absolutely love to see it! Snap a picture, tag the 607 Guest House, and show where “Got Butter?” travels. 🌽✨

Thank you again for supporting local. I’m incredibly grateful to have been selected as both a finalist and 3rd place winner in a contest connected to such an iconic Iowa tradition.

-Alison

Thank you for voting for your favorite design in the 2026 T-Shirt Contest. The winning design will be sold at our merchandise stands during the Iowa State Fair, August 13-23.

For this year’s contest, as in the past, the Blue Ribbon Foundation allowed the use of any and all forms of art, from hand-drawn ideas to AI-generated pictures. We appreciate all the feedback we received during this year's contest and will review our rules prior to 2027.

If you can’t wait until August, you can purchase any of the top 5 T-Shirts online now. The store is open through Friday, May 29. All orders will be shipped June 15.
