Some important District 5M9 dates and reminders to have on your calendar this September!

There’s a lot happening across our district, from growing our membership to celebrating the Lions who continue to make 5M9 such a strong place to serve.

September 1–30 | District 5M9 Fall Membership Drive
All month long, we’re encouraging every club to plant a seed. Invite someone to a meeting, bring a friend to a service project, or simply share why you’re a Lion. Every new Lion starts with an invitation.

September 15 | District Governor Appreciation Day RSVP Deadline

What if service started at work?

District 5M9 Lions are exploring new ways to bring service, leadership, and community impact into workplaces across our region.

A Workplace Lions Club gives employees a way to serve together, build stronger relationships, support local needs, and be part of something bigger than the normal workday.

This could be a fit for employers, hospitals, schools, large businesses, and organizations that believe in community impact and employee engagement.
Lions already serve across our towns.

Now we are Branching Out into the places where people work, lead, and connect every day.

Calling all District 5M-9 Lions and Leos!

It is time for the 2026-2027 District 5M-9 Environmental Photo Contest.

Each Lions and Leo club in District 5M-9 can submit ONE photo that showcases the natural beauty of the community you serve.

Photos must:
• Feature nature such as plants, animals, landscapes or weather
• Have been taken in 2026
• Be original and unaltered
• Be taken by the submitting Lion or Leo
• Show the local environment of your community
• No people may appear in the photo
• Be printed as an 8" x 10" photo

Entries are due December 17, 2026.

Winners will be selected by People's Choice voting at the District 5M-9 Midwinter Convention, with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Start looking through those 2026 photos and find one that shows off your corner of District 5M-9!

A Night of Lions Connecting

On Monday, August 31, 2026, Lions from across District 5M9 gathered at the Nisswa Community Center for the 5M9 Zones 1, 2 and 9 Zone Fair.

A big thank you to our host club, the Merrifield Lions, for bringing everyone together and helping make the evening such a success.

It was a great night of connecting, learning and sharing ideas with fellow Lions.

Clubs had the opportunity to talk about what is working in their communities, share service projects and events, hear updates from around District 5M9, and learn more about the projects and foundations supported by Lions.

Most importantly, it was a chance to connect with one another.

When Lions share ideas, learn from each other and build relationships across clubs, we all become better equipped to serve our communities.

A Night of Lions Connecting

On Monday, August 31, 2026, Lions from across District 5M9 gathered at the Nisswa Community Center for the 5M9 Zones 1, 2 and 9 Zone Fair.

𝗟𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘁𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗨𝗦𝗔 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. Donations funded Family Night events and the “Balls for All” initiative, gifting each participant a unique soccer ball. The smiles on the Olympians’ faces were a powerful reminder of how generosity, inclusion, and service can touch hearts and create lasting memories.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝗱 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹.

Sometimes it’s a few dollars given at a fundraiser, a gift made in memory of someone special, or a Lion quietly choosing to give because they believe in the work we do. Through the 𝗟𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, the generosity of Lions becomes grants, resources, and opportunities that help communities around the world.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.
𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.

Happy Labor Day from District 5M9 Lions.

Today, we recognize the people who work hard, serve others, build communities, support families, lead teams, and keep our towns moving forward.

Across District 5M9, Lions know that service takes work.

It takes people showing up.
It takes teamwork.
It takes time.
It takes heart.
It takes a community willing to help one another.

As we continue Branching Out this September, we are also looking at new ways to bring service into the places where people already work, lead, and connect.

Because service does not only happen at meetings.

It happens in workplaces.
It happens in neighborhoods.
It happens at events.
It happens wherever people decide to show up for something bigger than themselves.

Thank you to every Lion, worker, volunteer, employer, and community member helping build stronger communities across District 5M9.

This Labor Day, think of one workplace, team, or organization that could be part of the next chapter of Lions service.

➡️ Battle Lake Lions Pancake & Sausage Breakfast | Battle Lake Lions Club | Sept. 6 | 8 AM-1 PM | Lions Shelter at Community Beach, Battle Lake
All-you-can-eat pancakes plus sausage, coffee, milk and lemonade. Adults $8, ages 6-12 $5, under 6 free. Rain or shine.

➡️ 59th Annual McGregor Lions Corn Feed | McGregor Lions Club | Sept. 6 | Noon-4:30 PM | McGregor Airport & Community Center, 401 Main Street, McGregor
All-you-can-eat corn on the cob, canteen, kids activities, silent auction, bingo and music.

➡️ Fall Highway 371 Cleanup | Pequot Lakes Breezy Point Lions Club | Sept. 12 | 10 AM | Hwy. 371, mile markers 52-53, Pequot Lakes/Breezy Point area
Community members are invited to help with the club's adopted highway cleanup.

Ribs, chicken wings, corn on the cob and fresh fries.

Clubs are encouraged to grow their membership throughout September. The club with the highest percentage of growth wins 10 pizzas and two cases of pop, served by the Governor Team.

District 5M9 Environmental Photo Contest | District 5M9 Lions & Leos
The contest is open now to Lions and Leos in District 5M9. Each club may select one entry, which must be submitted by December 17, 2026. Winners will be selected by People's Choice voting at the January Midwinter Convention.

There is a lot happening across District 5M9 this month. Get out, support another Lions Club, bring a friend and help show our communities what Lions are all about!
