Weigh in times!

We are specifically writing to address some confusion about our weigh in times. As stated in the event information and rules offical weigh in will be when you check into the tournament. Doors open at 7:30 am on Sunday the 15th of October. When you come to check in we will also weight you in at the same time. Children’s divisions start promptly at 9 am. We suggest all children competitors be checked and weighed in before that start time. Tentative start times for Adults are 11 am. We suggest every adult be weighed and checked in before that time. Complimentary Weigh in will be in the Ball room of the Marriott at 6:30 pm on Saturday the 14th of October 2023. We will close this weight in promptly at 7:15 to prepare for the Ranking Ceremony. We may or may not be able to weigh everyone in at this time. If you weigh in during this time you do not need to weigh in on the day of the tournament. Please plan accordingly.

Now that we are a few days out I wanted to publicly thank everyone that came to the The Machado Invitational. I had mentioned I ran tournaments for a bit to Adam one day and next thing I know he’s asking if I want to do one. I hadn’t ran one or used the smoothcomp platform since 2018. I can tell you I was very nervous and stressed going into this. But everyone, the competitors, the spectators and especially all the volunteers all made it worth while. Yes there were a few bumps that came in unforeseen. I always hated when I couldn’t make matches for anyone that wanted to compete. The brackets were good but not great. It’s hard to fit a round robin that has so many in it. So I went went with four different styles. Most worked wonderfully for their brackets but one was lacking and left competitors questioning if they got a raw deal. So, in lue of that the next one will be tiered double elimination bracketing. When I set out to organize this tournament I really just wanted it to feel like it was just one big family getting together for a competitive roll. I didn’t want it to be as stressful as some random tournament you would go to anywhere else. When I first joined I hadn’t ever really felt the family atmosphere in Jiu Jitsu outside my training room and Master Carlos Machado made me feel like this affiliation was truly one extended family. It’s why when pressured on the spot in front of a few hundred strangers I said I would join. That was stressful and has honestly lead to a lot of ups and downs. But I’m confident it was the best way forward for myself and my Academy. To wrap this up I’m very thankful for everyone that has welcomed me over the past few years and to those that have joined since. To me, you’re family. To those that were less than excited about the outcome of this tournament, I will improve, it will be all you deserve.
