“If she can dream it - she can be it!" is the motto of Soroptimist International's Dream It, Be It program known as the “Get Real Academy” in Contra Costa County, California.
Today we had our 2020 “Get Real Academy (GRA).”
Our day-long life skills conference for senior high school girls is organized and funded by the following Soroptimist Clubs: 24-680 (Walnut Creek), Antioch, Diablo Vista, Martinez, Pittsburg, and The Delta.
These six Soroptimist Clubs raise approximately $25,000 every year in order to provide 200 senior high school girls with this day-long conference which includes breakfast & lunch. There is no cost to students or to the high schools they attend.
Workshop subjects include: Preparing for a Job Interview, Mock Job Interviews, Resiliency, Money Management, Women’s Health, and Violence Awareness. Local business women and Soroptimist members donate their time and talent to lead these life-skills workshops.
We had two lunchtime speakers this year. Christine Loscalzo, Special Agent with the FBI whose presentation is well received every year and Delphine Metcalfe Foster, Past National Commander, Disabled American Veterans.
