To help protect the health of parks, as well as the safety of our visitors, several Missouri state parks will be temporarily closed for scheduled managed deer hunts.

These controlled hunts are an important conservation tool that help prevent overpopulation, reduce damage to natural habitats and maintain a balanced ecosystem within the parks. We have worked closely with Missouri Dept. of Conservation to plan and coordinate these hunts.

Please note the following parks will be closed to the public during these dates:

- Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park - Nov. 6-8.
- Crowder State Park - Dec. 4-6.
- Cuivre River State Park - Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
- K**b Noster State Park - Dec. 4-5.
- Lake of the Ozarks State Park - Dec. 5-7.
- Long Branch State Park - Nov. 7-10.
- Mark Twain State Park - Nov. 7-8.
- Pomme de Terre State Park - Nov. 6-8.
- Robertsville State Park - Nov. 7-8.
- Stockton State Park - Nov. 5-8.

Camping on Missouri conservation land will soon require a $5 permit, and many visitors to unstaffed shooting ranges will need a small-game hunting license.

The Conservation Commission approved both changes Friday. The new rules take effect Feb. 28, 2027, following public objections over additional fees for facilities already supported by taxpayers.

PICKING UP PAWPAWS:

Challenge 1: In the comments, share with us a pawpaw tree that you found and the best pawpaw photo you have.

Fun Fact: Most people describe the taste of a pawpaw fruit as a mixture between a banana and a mango, with a custard-like consistency.
