I love the Cycle for Life tour company. I hosted owners, Dennis and Ellie this evening, with four amazing ladies from California. I’ve been hosting these two folks and their riders for several years now, and nothing is better than regulars who become like family.

Dinner was served, with the help of two other women business owners in Hohenwald.

Tammy Cameron, whose ancient grain breads are outstanding! On the table, her ancient grain sourdough and homemade olive focaccia. Keep an eye out. Tammy has a bakery opening soon.

(If you’re interested in more info, please contact Tammy on FB, as I don’t know all the details.)

Next up, the “Prager Cake Machine”. Her cakes are artwork. If you haven’t ordered one yet, well I don’t know what to tell you, but it is absolutely as delicious as it is beautiful. I think this one is my favorite to date.

And of course, washing this meal down with a cold glass of Southern sweet tea. Always a hit with first-timers, no matter what part of the world you reside.

Next up, my take on a southernized Caprese salad. ďżźSlow-roasted tomatoes and mozzarella for a country kick.

I made my favorite pasta dish I call The Little Queen’s Ribbons. If you enjoy WWII history, you’ll enjoy the origins of this pasta.

Traditionally, this pasta is called Mafaldine, or Reginette, which literally means “little queens.”

It’s named after Princess Mafalda of Savoy, an Italian princess born in 1902, and the ruffled edges are meant to look like little ribbons fit for royalty.

Mafalda was an Italian princess, daughter of King Victor Emmanuel the Third, and she married a German prince, Philipp of Hesse.

When Italy switched sides in 1943, the N***s saw her as a target, and she was arrested by the Gestapo and sent to Buchenwald concentration camp.

She died there in 1944 after an Allied bombing raid on the camp badly injured her. She lost an arm and ultimately died from her injuries without proper medical care.

Thus, this dish gets its name because the ribboned pasta looks like the ribboned hem of a royal’s dress.

Good times at Meriwether’s Retreat… with a history bonus.

Bet you don’t miss that answer next time Ken Jennings asked about Mafalda. 😂🤣😂

It’s Adult Cake & Ice Cream Party at the B & B tonight, and boy did we get rowdy.
🤣😂🤣

I love this group. Laughs, laughs, and more laughs. Thank you, Mrs. Pat, for bringing your club back to MR again this year. ❤️

Pilot Club representin’….

I love this group, and love all the laughter that comes from the front of the house when the ladies “let their hair down” for the evening.

Meanwhile, I say we all head on over to wherever the Pilot Club is meeting tonight, and hit that cake and ice cream station. 🤣😂🤣

Vicky Prager… Good grief. Your cake artistry is lovely in every way. Best part? They taste even better than they look. ❤️

Ohio representin’…. what a nice gentleman and dog lover.

Y’all know how it is around here. Behind door #2 lies the Oreo Welcome Wagon - aka the Crumb Catcher Cartel.

If you request to see them, they will visit you with glee.

And if you don’t like dogs, well bless your little ole’ heart.

We can fix that, you know. ❤️🐶❤️

And guests love them. Thank you, Vicky. ❤️

When Vicky delivered the white chocolate raspberry cake today’s guests, I was surprised at the fresh mint.

Vicky said, “It’s so if you’re have tea with cake, you can get your mint right off the cake.” 😲

Vicky’s a Cake Baller. Just like my Grandma.
🥳🎂❤️

“The Tennessean” recently listed Hohenwald as one of the Top 10 “coolest towns” to visit in Tennessee while on summer vacation!

While those of us living here have always known our community is special, it’s encouraging to see others acknowledge what we’ve been blessed with here at home.

Lewis County offers things that can’t be manufactured, and that’s an authentic, small-town experience such as:

Floating the beautiful Buffalo River Blueway…touring The Elephant Sanctuary Discovery Center…exploring our Museum of Natural History…visiting the Meriwether Lewis Monument…enjoying an evening at The Strand Theatre…relaxing at one of our wineries…shopping in a unique, locally owned business…dining in one of our delicious restaurants…or simply taking a hike through one of our State Parks.

Recognition like this by “The Tennessean” belongs to every citizen of Lewis County. It reflects the pride you take in your homes, your businesses, your organizations, your churches, your schools, and your community.

It reminds us that while we may not be the largest destination in Tennessee, we are certainly one of its most welcoming and unique.
