Ahoy, Vegas adventurers! Did you know that one of the Strip’s most unforgettable attractions once featured pirate ships battling right in front of a hotel? 🤯

When Treasure Island opened in 1993, it brought a whole new level of entertainment to Las Vegas with its spectacular outdoor pirate show, Battle of Buccaneer Bay!

⚔️ Imagine walking down the Strip and suddenly witnessing two massive ships exchanging cannon fire, complete with explosions, dramatic stunts, and a ship appearing to sink!

And the best part? The show was FREE! 🎉

In 2003, the original pirate battle was replaced by Sirens of TI, a more theatrical production featuring music, dancing, and plenty of Vegas-style spectacle.

These tunnels were built to help channel rainwater away from streets and neighborhoods during sudden desert downpours.

And here's something that surprises many visitors: Las Vegas may be in the desert, but flash flooding is a serious concern! ⛈️

Because the desert ground and paved surfaces don't always absorb heavy rainfall quickly, water can rush through streets and drainage channels with incredible force.

Over the years, some of these underground tunnels have also become temporary shelters for people experiencing homelessness, making them part of a lesser-known and challenging chapter of modern Las Vegas life.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: These tunnels are extremely dangerous during storms and should never be entered for sightseeing or exploration.

One of the most recognizable signs in the world has an interesting story behind it. ✨
The iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada” sign was designed by commercial artist Betty Willis and installed in 1959 on Las Vegas Boulevard.

But here’s the surprising part: Willis never copyrighted her design. She considered it her gift to Las Vegas and wanted everyone to be able to enjoy and use it. ❤️

That decision helped the sign become much more than a roadside landmark. Over the decades, its unmistakable design has appeared on everything from T-shirts and souvenirs to movies, advertisements and countless Vegas-inspired creations.

And those circles surrounding the word WELCOME? They were designed to resemble silver dollars, a nod to Nevada’s famous nickname: The Silver State. 🪙

Today, the sign remains one of the ultimate Vegas photo stops—and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Pretty impressive for a sign that's been welcoming travelers for more than six decades! 🤩

Before giant LED screens, Sphere and today’s high-tech displays, neon ruled Las Vegas! ✨

The city’s first neon signs are believed to have appeared around 1928–1930, helping launch a visual style that would eventually become synonymous with Vegas itself. By the 1950s, glowing signs weren’t simply advertisements—they were part of the entertainment.

And some pieces of that classic Vegas are still around!

The Neon Museum preserves signs and artifacts from legendary properties, including the Stardust, Dunes, Riviera and other names from Vegas history. Its collection now includes hundreds of signs and pieces representing more than 200 properties.

Even better? Some restored signs still light up, giving visitors a chance to experience a little of the glow of vintage Las Vegas. 🌟

So next time you're surrounded by Vegas' spectacular modern lights, remember: this city has been perfecting the art of getting your attention for nearly a century! 😎
