A story—a tale.

The Peabody Memphis is one of those bucket-list hotels. On the Historic Hotels of America list, it checks off that historic box I often look for in my hotels.

But it’s not just historic; it has a story, and it’s truly unique. What other hotel has ducks living on the roof that march down to the lobby and spend the day in the fountain? That’s what makes it special and gives it that story.

But The Peabody Memphis offers more. It makes you feel good. It’s special—and it makes you feel special. That’s what hospitality is all about, right?

Beautiful rooms, luxurious bedding, a stunning lobby, well-preserved original architecture—and a perfect stop on my Delta road trip.

Oh, and don’t forget the food and cocktails. Plenty of restaurants inside the hotel and within walking distance. (My husband and I once stayed here with friends to see The Dempseys perform on Beale Street… just a short walk away.)

Mr. Booker and The Peabody Ledger: 1927–1928: A Historical Mystery Inside Memphis’s Grand Hotel is a historical mystery inspired by the atmosphere, history, and remarkable legacy of The Peabody Memphis during the late 1920s. As Memphis grew during a period of transformation and cultural change, The Peabody stood at the center of the city's social life, welcoming travelers, entertainers, business leaders, and unforgettable personalities through its doors.

The novel blends real places, historical atmosphere, and the spirit of The Peabody with mystery and imagination. Set during 1927 and 1928, the story follows hidden connections, long-kept secrets, and mysteries quietly moving beneath the elegance of one of the South's most iconic hotels. Through hallways, guest rooms, and records that were never meant to be revisited, the past begins revealing truths that some hoped would remain forgotten.

For generations, The Peabody has held a special place in Memphis history, becoming known not only for its grandeur and traditions, but for the countless stories that passed through its halls. Few places witness so many arrivals, departures, celebrations, and private moments.

As someone who loves uncovering overlooked corners of history, I wanted to create a story that honored The Peabody's remarkable history while imagining the mysteries that history sometimes leaves behind.
